Hmm...I think they make the car look a little out of proporation but that's just one angle so I don't know, maybe if I saw the car side-on I wouldn't say that.
Can I keep it? 馃槈
Craig Paton 路
It's not the best photo, nor the best angle, and there is no engine in it at the moment.
So it's sitting on the wrong camber!
When the engine is in, it sits with a nice squat and also it has a s/steel 21/2 in muffler which gives a fat appearance!
Oh well that is only my opinion. {The Toowoomba Look!}
Cheers !

No, I can see that. Little lower n the car would look hella tough 馃檪
Wish I could get my car looking all tough like that but for now, I'll just have to do with the four normal guards with little dents in each of them and the bad paint job. 馃榾

I have seen worse.... but I personally like guards that have been widened, but You can't tell..... these are usually made from fibre glass ....
Some people seem to make the wide guards with the widened bit at a different radius so You can tell they are wide....
dont really like lipped guards, i like widened ones like Lee describes or Aeros
lulu94 路
iv got those Guards on my car and i really like them, matching ones on the front to, why would you think they are ugly, i think some others with those guards wouldnt call them ugly either, some might be offended
pete wood 路
saw those guards on a car round my area a few years back. a 1500 beetle I think. it was dumped on skinnies at the front with standard guards and on the back it had those guards with great big fat tyres under them. looked awesome, sounded fat too, a real classic muscle car look. 馃槑
Dannyboy 路
Craig has asked a question. Do you think these are ugly. As he has ASKED for a point of view to be expressed the answers he recieves will be mixed which is what i think he's after.
A little different to saying "hey look at my new guards , what do you think" and folk being harsh about his choice. Cars are personal things and what i like others hate. Aslong as you like them thats all that matters , otherwise we'd all be driving around in bugs looking the same
Look good if the cars got the rims to match , my 2 cents.

with the fat tyres they look great, not like a purple bug going round my way at the moment, has double hump guards with about 6 inch wheels arrrgghhh!!! shouted out to them it needed fatter wheels :thumb
ColumBUS 路
i think theyre okay as long as the rest of the car matches, and there is suitable amount of chrome and rubber underneath them.
good for the german look, but prefer straight flares and aeros.
i might be pickin up a set for the rear for my superbug, hopefully before the paint job
Dannyboy 路
Pete i think i saw the car , looked great!

i think it looks pretty good actually :thumb

Isn't it facinating to hear other peoples' viewpoints about what looks good to them!
I myself like standard guards, widened, flared and also the aero!
I love the cal-look,the German look,the vintage,the fat look,hell I just love beetles,Kombis',KG,s,T1,T2,T3,T4 and the new T5's.
This post was only started so I could here other viewpoints!!
A/ones opinion welcome!

Or maybe I wanted my Bug to have a nice Ar** LIKE THIS!!!!

They look pretty nice to me. I think the only ugly VW guards are ones with Torana lights in them, or maybe really over lipped/rolled ones...

Thanks for all the comments! Wat if a/one could post pics of the different styles of guards.
And not limited to beetles either!
What do ya reckon??
57kombi 路
Seeing you have asked for comments,
I dont like beetles, I am into splits, but that said, I think they look good, also it looks better without the normal bumper and with the t bars you have fitted.
Cheers

looks good, but i would have gone for the elephant foot lights. looks more proportioned
winerot 路
sitting here reading latest vw trends about perry bronson & his new
ideas about flared guards in 1970, admittedly i dont like them but
without people like him you dont get end results like this one above
which looks the part
there are classic i love them
Craig Paton 路
Hi Starbuggy
Are the Elephant tail lights that you refer to the S/bug lights?
My Bugs a 68 and I just used what the car came with!
The photo above was taken with a dirty old kodak , and I think that together with the angle distorts the shape alittle!
Well that's my excuse anyway. Also had it detailed today by Dave Ellis.(waxit.com.au) Check out his site!
Looks much better! 馃槈

I don't like plastic much myself, however these guards do look good - especially if they are filled with tyre. I don't mind the aero look either, but Torana and Porraga......:puke:puke
