Nothing too serious just for fun. Meet up at the caltex/redroster on Great Eastern (200m up from g/northern)at between EDIT 11am on Sunday 23rd, then leave to go to Mundaring/sawers Valley. I will be taking my jeep just in case you get stuck in the mud but most tracks are dry anyway. (I just don't have a buggy to take right now....cry). I will take straps but best if you have your own.

I was just about to post something now, but thanks for doing it anyway. Is that the Caltex near Auto Europe?
What happened with your buggy? Racing incident?

What happened with your buggy? Racing incident? yes and no
you can't take cars with out rego up there, and my baja is not ready..
and yes I did crash at lancelin...lol (not bad but) the car is ok, I wasn't. $300 damage to the car

64vwmark ·
Hope you're ok now. Will be cool to see your Baja when it's ready.
Doug Sweetman ·
Good one Moose. Have you ever had the buggy out and not broken either it or you ?
Damn I miss my Baja now.
Did anyone on this site ever buy (or see) a Guards Red 1957 (big rear window, not oval) bug eye baja in Perth - I sold it in about 2001 to a bloke in Bibra Lake, rego number was BD.18760.
It had a 1600 single port in it, with powder coated white tinwork.
31.5 R 15's on the back, swingaxle (67 pan). 15" 5 ply light truck tyres up front. All on custom made Sunraysia steel rims (white).
Would love to catch up with whoever owns it - might even consider buying it back. I'm getting tired of smooth road driving.

lol.... funny you say that, I looked at one in the Quokka that was red with white tin... but the bugger sold it while i was on my way to see it. He's selling a white one now on ebay
WABaja ·
I remember that red one, but have not seen it for a few years..
Doug Sweetman ·
I really hope it hasnt been written off or anything silly, my old man and I put a heap of effort into it and it was a real good package by the time I (stupidly) sold it to buy something 'that went faster' 🙁
Dipstick.

oh' and welcome to WA
Desert Bug ·
G'day to the southern WA Veedub nuts,
why is it that there's a VW run on in my State and I'm 3200ks and i'm still in the state and it's just sooo far away.
Hope you have a good run and we're hoping to be down in Perth with the Desert Splitty in September for a bit of a cruise to check the joint out.
Would like to catch with some of ya at that time.
Cheers, Ian.

Yeah, just think of driving from Cairns (Qld) all the way down to Geelong(Vic) and still be in the same state..........
gotta love our big state:thumb

Do we have any more cars coming along yet...???
Desert Moose ·
WABaja wrote:Do we have any more cars coming along yet...???
Yeah, but it may be a bit hot up there..........with the fires and all
64vwmark ·
That's true. Will have play it by ear once we get there.
WABaja ·
so at this stage is it, 64vwmark , moose with the 4be and my Baja...???
Desert Moose ·
WABaja wrote:so at this stage is it, 64vwmark , moose with the 4be and my Baja...???

64vwmark =Buggy
me = jeep Truck
WAbaja =Baja
Andy? =BajaUte
Brian =manx
Simmon? =buggy
kombicol = Baja Kombi
Mick= baja
Steve?=4x4
this is all I know for sure but more have emailed me for details
WABaja ·
Coool.....
I just hope they can stop the fire before we get there...
It's made it across to Mundairing ...!!!
There are a lot of Police up there with many roads closed...
I will be catching up with Andy tomorrow but don't hold much hope of him being able to come along as I hear his house construction is now running way behind time...
[Edited on 19-1-2005 by WABaja]
64vwmark ·
They reckon the fire is under control now but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.
Is there anywhere else to go up there if Mundaring is closed off??
WABaja ·
Well I was hoping we could go just a little past Sawyers Valley, on the way to The Lakes turn off out Great Eastern Highway, as there are some great tracks up through there...
Hopefully that area will not have been affected...
64vwmark ·
We'll just have to check it out once we get there i guess.
NigeType3 ·
A warning has been sent out to all mountain bike riders on another forum to avoid the hills all together for now. They fear riders will get caught in a fast moving fire. You guys may what to adhere to this as well.
Stay safe Nige
64vwmark ·
Thanks for the info. We won't be taking any unnecessary risks.
Desert Moose ·
I have rang the shire,......... and its a no go zone...:cry
maybe a run somewhere else this weekend and do mundaring another time
any ideas people…..? I was looking forward to the day
Doug Sweetman ·
Surely there must be something down the southwest highway ?
or go up to Lancelin or somewhere like that ?
64vwmark ·
Anyone seen "4WD Days out of Perth" 3rd Ed?
Inside there is a run called 'Moondyne Country'. It's in the Avon Valley National Park. I haven't been there before but apparently there is a lot of historic sites there to see.
Could be interesting. What do you think? It's about half way to Toodyay.
Desert Moose ·
Yeah, could be interesting or we could make it the 30th and still go to mundaring........
cos' you still need to go past the hills to get to toodyay
some people I know are going to lancelin saturday, but I'm still eating sand from last time....lol
maybe some time down Harvey way ( I don't know it well, only the hard 4x4 tracks)
64vwmark ·
I'd prefer that we don't change the date as other people may have plans already for the following weekend but I'm easy either way.
Anywhere down south of the fires sounds good to me, Harvey could be good as long as it doesn't take too long to get down there. If we take off at 11 we should be down there just after midday?
WABaja ·
What about the off road area down near Motorplex...??? )If it's still open that is)... Otherwise the forest tracks on the way to Lancelin or, have any of you guys done the Warbrook road that runs from Sydney Road, off Gnangara Rd, up to Bullsbrook...
That's a good one, it's on the maps as a road, but it's an unsealed track and takes in some of the state forrest across the back of the Gnangara Pines with plenty of old wrecks and some good little tracks...
It's not a big one, a slow straight drive through there will take less than an hour, but there are a lot of little adventures in there, and it gets us out "Somewhere" that we can continue on from, (Rather than a lot of driving to the middle of "No where" with a turn around and head back)....
I'm happy to lead the way, but we'll need to change the meeting point if you guys want to do this one...
Desert Moose ·
that sounds good to me....... I love Gnangara Pines and I know my way around as well..... the only thing is we took our commodore on that track your talking about, but as you say the tracks to the side can be very good ....lol, with deep and hungry sand.
WABaja ·
All those in favour say "I"...
seagull ·
come to lancelin Chris , I make sure I keep it in second gear all day so you stay with me ! :P
Desert Moose ·
WABaja wrote:All those in favour say "I"...
eye............
and sorry, No to lancelin... race car is pulled down to get ready for Hyden race:o
Doug Sweetman ·
The off road area in Kwinana near the motorplex is still open - just down the road from me and on my way to work 🙂
64vwmark ·
Gnangara pines sounds really good to me. I spend a lot of time in there and there is a lot of tracks to check out. I was up Warbrook road on Tues, there is a lot of tracks that run off it, good sand hills to attempt etc etc. Oh I forgot to mention that it's 5 mins from my place.
If we go there we should find another meeting place. My house?
WABaja ·
I think the Warbrook Road option is looking the best, as it's such a diverse area that's not too far away from civilization, whilst still being almost deserted, (so no through traffic) and Doug, it might be a change for you if you do the Kwinana area every other day... hehehehe....
Moose, I spoke with Andy today, he's too busy to make it on Sunday..
He said something about building a house:blahputting up walls:blahputting on a roof:blah:blah:blah.... Next time, if we can give him plenty of notice..
Any thoughts for a meeting place..??
BP North Perth is good for me...:thumb
64vwmark ·
BP North Perth sounds good to me. Would that be on Charles Street?
WABaja ·
Corner of Charles and Scarbrough Beach Road yes...
And there's a McDee's there for Breakfast too:thumb
64vwmark ·
That'll be 2 Sausage and Egg McMuffins, 2 Hash browns and a coffee for me thanks.......lol
WABaja ·
Would you like Fies with that...???
Hey be sure and pack your sunscreen for Sunday...
Forecast is about 36 degrees at this stage...!!!:jesus
64vwmark ·
Yes that's a good idea. I'll have to bring along a few refreshments as well.
Desert Moose ·
all sounds good to me as well........ and I'm 4 minutes away...lol
Brian and simon aren't coming either, but will do next time when we go to mundaring.....
I think kombicol will still be interested
anyone else....?
(oh , and if your talkin Mc'breakfast what time are we starting again:duh)

Hey you could actually live there you know... You've got 24 hour food and toilets and when it's shower time, go to the car wash out the back...:P
64vwmark ·

Opp's sorry if I sounded a bit girly in that post.... thats what I get for showing Her the forum.:thumb
64vwmark ·
We should gt a bit of a road cruise in up Wanneroo road before we hit the dirt. I know what you are saying though I'm close to the pines too, so is a bit of back tracking but should be a good day anyway.
Desert Moose ·
just jokes......:P
I have been workin' on the old girl(jeep) all day today to get it there. It has been months since I drove it, and I have put another motor since then..... so it needs the run on the road anyway...lol
64vwmark ·
How's it running now?
Doesn't matter if you have trouble with it, there should be a few VW's there to pull you out.......lol
Desert Moose ·
lol.....luv it.
yeah it runs ok but need to do the timing. all I have done is advanced it till it pinged then back it off a little. but it still has a bit of mumbo anyway. it will just use 15 x more fuel then your car.....lol
WABaja ·
Are we ready to roast in the sun...???
Desert Moose ·
what with all them tree's.......:P
I'm taking a big "lean to" tent for somewhere we can have launch and stuff when we stop......
and we might look into somewhere to swim later in the arvo

Cheers moose,
a pretty good summary of the day's events. I had fun too, despite the stuffed bumper andpanel damage! Did you or anyone else get a pick of the bolts actually torn out of the body?
A note to all other kombi owners, THE ORIGINAL TOW POINT ON THE REAR IS PISSWEAK! DONT USE IT!
Let me know when you think mundaring is likely to be a goer, and in the meantime, if oyu come across a kombi rear bumper, think of me 😉
