The Desert Splitty and I are back in Billiluna (Gateway to the Canning Stock Route), WA. We did Darwin to here in 2 days, 1500ks towing a 6x4 trailer loaded with 12 s/h tyres I bought in Darwin for the Desert Buggy I'm building over the wet season. We left Kaye down south till the end of Feb but I had to come back to work.
The trip with the Splitty went very well, cruising along at 90-100ks most of the time and 80-90 on the 160ks of the Tanami Rd to home. As I turned off the Tanami Rd for the last 2ks into Billiluna everything went dead. I had forgotten to hook up the wire that charges the battery when I fitted a new battery in Katherine, and running with the lights on for 100ks had flattened the battery and everything must've been running on the regulator and when I put the clutch in the change down at the turnoff it all stopped and I had to walk the last 2ks to home and get the truck and "A" bar and go and tow it home. At least it's easy fixed and a lesson learned, make sure you check that all bits are put back on.
Cheers, Ian.

Rhys you're right, I can't help myself, but why buy new ones when you can pick up a $280 tyre with 1/2 tread for $30, and it lets me try various sizes to find what works and then I go and find more s/h ones of that size.
Cheers, Ian.

Desert Bug ·
G'day Dan,
March 1990 to May 2004 - 14 years- average 12 to 15 hr days at work- 1.3 million ks- 15 current model Commodore or Falcon Company cars- mobile phone bills up to $1500 a month- 3 stress breakdowns due to overwork supervising the construction of up to 25 houses at once, sometimes up to 300 to 400ks from the office, THIS is why I like living in the Desert, besides I love the look on peoples faces when they see an old Kombi doing what they're doing in their flash 4x4s.
Cheers, Ian.
I checked out the Splitty"s problem, turned out to be a blown main fuse, but I had left a wire off but it was to the 2nd battery that powers the Engel fridge, so all is well. (Thinking) but what caused the fuse to blow? Better check a bit further.

Did you know that the Greatest New Zealander Dissapointment was when they found out that The Canning Stock Route was NOT an annual Event...!!!:P
