hehehe... has everyone seen the fast and the furious? supposedly two bottles of nos get shot up... the car is left completely intact and the two guys who were ducking behind some boxes were unharmed

It is a pretty good VW site, mainly USA and the thread is in the forced induction forum,
there is an article in there on how it happened. The valve on the bottle let go and he left the warmer blanket on all night or something and BANG! Yes it was caused by NOS but as likely as getting hit by lightning or eated by a shark, unless you live in SA.

Thats a definite nos bottle explosion. Its actually the second one I've seen (both yanks hmmmmm a pattern ?).

The gas is stored at very high pressures, and as a result the amount of energy contained is really quite surprising.

Just as food for thought, roughly the same thing would happen if a scuba cylinder catastrophically failed (ie full rupture) in the back of your car. They are stored at something like 300bar (30,000kPa).

I guess the guy had a problem with his bottle warmer..... and it heated the NOS up too much, which made it try to expand (you know perfect gas law P1 x V1 / T1 = P2 x V2 / T2), because it couldnt expand, the pressure increased slowly until it reached the level at which the aluminium / steel nos bottle yielded, reulting in fracture and essentially instantly releasing all of the energy stored in the bottle - result = one trashed ricer.

That makes a lot more sense. NOS aint explosive just gives more oxygen to aid in combustion

so if this is the case, more ricers should have NOS in their cars i reckon.....lets start a destruction and sell some cheap nos kit to rice boys and take over with our VW's....hehehehe:bounce:alien

That happened not all that long ago in bendigo. A lady started her BMW and went back inside the house for something, a spark from something combined with the heat from the engine and fumes from the exhuast exploded a bbq gas bottle. Blew the garage door clean off and seriously injured the lady as she ran down the street on fire. I was working at a new house just doors down. My boss was the bloke who called the fire brigade and extinguised the ladies clothes.... Not cool. BMW and house a write off, and the whole house knocked down and built again. was only a 12mth old home too. :duh
