that makes sence, what about the 19 at the atart, shouldnt it be 11?

BenettonVW ·

The 19 at the start means it is made in Oz..

Yes We found that out yesterday that the 9 stands for made in Clayton Victoria...
I still haven't found any mention of that fact from all the books and websites I have looked thru....

Hi

The 9 only came on the Beetles that were made here when the rest of the world went ball joints, 12 volt etc. Our bugs were stuck in time until 1968.

And I was actually wrong if you want to be picky..

As mentioned, the '9' means made in Oz, (Clayton plant), and not the 19.

The '1' of course means Type 1, or Beetle.

And nah Damo, I haven't got any more info.. I used to know what they all meant and stood for, but.. I must have killed off those brain cells with alcohol..
