pyr0 ·

kustomkool ·

akean1 ·

ruckus ·
Those tail lights look earlier than '71? Nice custom work mate, hope not too many injuries though
akean1 ·
the first thing i did was buy some earlier tail lights and wack em on. no chest wounds, just the standard atacking of the hands
ruckus ·
hehe. At least you get tuff scars that everyone sees then. Hope to see it around soon!
akean1 ·
almost ready to be filled
akean1 ·
almost ready to go back in
pete wood ·
the paint on that exhaust will last for at least 10minutes before it goes white and crusty 😀
but it should help it go at least 10beers faster than before :P
akean1 ·
the can siid it was heat proof up to 1200 degrees? hopefully ill find out soon
Adam_C ·
with that paint the hot tip is to usually run the engine a little to let it cure ........ try to avoid geting it too hot... do it a coupla times and it should apparently last longer

ruckus ·
Akean I was just about to write and ask how this was going! W-lid looks good and the colour should be pretty eye-catching as well. I still say this car is going to confuse many people though :thumb
Anthiron ·
thats gonna be sweet man😎
akean1 ·
thanks guys, its nice to hear someone thinks its promising other than me,
i've got the towel rail bumpers, just have to put a few square holes into em to fit the super brackets
DIY-DUB ·

Stanley ·
Nice job man...decklid sets it off...keep the pics coming.
ColumBUS ·

PHAT BUG ·
Lookin good man!
akean1 ·
cheers🙂 progress is ok, im using aerosol paint, and the colour im using is out of stock! the right hand side and front (all nicely cut out of the pic) are still in need of painting. if anyone comes accross a shop selling BELTON MOLOTOW paint in "anthricite grey" please let me know, i need about another 6 cans. im also wandering if you can get new rubber for the old popes noses?
thanks rob, it wes the second one. good to know they are still around 🙂
now that the W is on i cant open it with the bumper on (old or new, on the late brackets)
so im gonna try something different...2 is better than 1 right?:duh

akean1 ·
so this is what i didnt have in mind, but i want to be able to look at the motor. wish me luck matching the inside edge curve on the right side
:jesus
Chewy ·
Haha cool
your spraypainting got me motivated, I;ve been sandblasting everything and painting them black and white 😀
hows the body spray job coming out using cans?
[Edited on 22/3/2005 by Chewy]
akean1 ·
the cans im using are really good, had a bit of trouble getting the roof even (would have been easy if i could roll it on its side) im gonna leave the ruff finish for a while, then get the shine out of it later on. ive had enough sanding for a while
SKEWtYpe3 ·
try lowering the brackets so the bumper sits lower
u have come across one of the big problems of doing what u r doing, good luck !
cheers

kustomkool ·
Yeh akean i recon you should get Lindon to tow it to my house so we can finish it on the Queens birthday and Tuesday.I need something to work on.
akean1 ·
all i have to do now is run new fuel line through, put the tank back in, buy a new battery, and pray for the colour i was using to be in stock again:cussing. been pretty flat out with drawing and work.
have got a new bit of bling though😎
[Edited on 13-6-2005 by akean1]
eirecooled ·
see I told ya the s/steel rack is the duck's nuts. did you put clear vinyl hose on the feet to stop the paint being marked. to lock that sucker on you need a two 3" x 5/16 socket cap set screws and drill a hole through them and fit 2 x locks.
akean1 ·
it came with little black tube feet, so i used those. have you got any pics of how to set up the locks?
kustomkool ·
put that fuel line in yet brother?
Stanley ·
lookin' good akean..keep up the good work..love the rack
akean1 ·
damo came over today and helped me get it running, feels good to hear the motor dak again.
now i just need to finish painting, get the spounge out of the brakes, find indicators for front bumper and fit it, bit of re chroming, replace the main engine seal (small drips that road worthy people will pick on me for), find rubbers for over riders, secure the removable rear skirt and that should be enough to have it on the road. then ill be putting ford lazer seats in front, bubble smoothie hub caps, solid visor, spats on the back
BenettonVW ·
Nice bro.. looking good man.. DOVW fo' sure..
akean1 ·
cheers jim, yep it'll definatly be there now, registered or not
oval TOFU ·
The decklid looks definately different on a 71! The rear bumpers are a nice peice of work too - I reckon they'll turn out great.. carb should be coming your way soon....

XXX-1.8T ·
hey man any updates on ur babay cant wait till its finished:kiss
akean1 ·
hey costa , no visable progress at the moment. got the indicators for front bumper (commodore ones) have to work out what shape hole i need to cut in the bumper to fit em?
UncleRudi ·
That is going to be one sweet looking ride! I'm impressed at how good the paint job is using spray cans, it's given me hope that I can do similar.:thumb
akean1 ·
cheers rudi, just lots of prep, and good quality anti drip paint:beer
pangalactic ·
hows it going akean, cant believe how much better my old bug is looking, great job.
akean1 ·
is that you chris, i've gone a little past the 3 months i thaught it would take me to get it on the road😀
geewiz ·
keep it up, it'll look nice and cruisey after its slammed 🙅
akean1 ·
left side trim almost sorted. there is a bit of bog in the very back wich is making the last clip on the chrome strip non sit tight, not sure what im gonna do about this yet
oval TOFU ·
Can you use a washer of some sort on the other side as an anchor?
akean1 ·
good idea chris, :beer i just had a look, could be done but will be a pain getting behind it. i will probably try and see how far i can rub the bog back first. but if that fails ill get a nut and bolt type trim attachment and get someone with little fingers to give me a hand
Doug ·
what are the final plans for her?
akean1 ·
lowered to lowest legal, sports seats? grey BRM's . i dont want to spend to much on this one as i realy want an irs pan with balljoint front with an older body on it.
the super will be the daily driver till the dream comes true
karmen ·
to ancor it better take the strain offa it by bending the chrome to exact body shape
(then a bit of liquid nails in the hole .....never to be seen again)
akean1 ·
how can you bend them without kinking them?
oval TOFU ·
use your thigh or your mate's/gf's/mum's back and carefully caress it into shape...? seriously
akean1 ·
you gonna come over and show me how its done chris?😵make sure you bring your mates girlfriend's mum:P

akean1 ·

[ Edited on 5-11-2005 by akean1 ]
PrettyBlueBug ·
Wow... that looks really sweet! Great job on the paint. 👍
oval TOFU ·
What sound/noise/*** does the horn make? foghorn? bullhorn?
akean1 ·
its supposed to be a bull horn, but it sounds more like some sort of vibrating part failure
oval TOFU ·
got a relay and some 10 or 20 amp wire hooked up to it? I found in my previous beetle, i had massive voltage drop from using the original wiring... so I switched to ot the new stuff and well, London, here we come ay?!!
akean1 ·
got new wiring, but no relay yet. its all quick fix jobs at the moment, just want to have it at day of
akean1 ·
started tackling the front indicators today.
i started by marking where i wanted them, used the cutting blade on the grinder to start off, drilled small holes, then punched out the chunk. then lots of back and forth between grinder and dremil, untill the plastic indicator units sliped in nicely. unfortunatly they dont sit fully flush with the bumper

looking smoothe mate 👍 im coming down for day of cant wait to see it there 😎
oval TOFU ·
nice work - are they LEDS?
What car are they from?
akean1 ·
not leds, weird small globes. they are the ones you see on the side of the newer commodores. got them from auto 1 (rare spares) they look alright, but are all plastic. a bit flimsy for my liking
XXX-1.8T ·
love the car mate will u go early headlights at the front to match the early rear?
akean1 ·
i was going to, but not sure now. the plan was to cut the light section out of old guards and weld into the super guards
oval TOFU ·
if you're gonna do some cutting, get a couple of last model's E-Class lenses (the larger ones) and do a flush fitting job... 😉
akean1 ·
you got any pics of these e-class lenses chris?
PrettyBlueBug ·
Those indicators look a bit cute! Even if they are plastic.... :P
ruckus ·
Akean you're crazy man... I love it!
hehehe
oval TOFU ·
nah, I can't remember where I saw it. but the concept was to pretty much continue the curve of the guard (sorta like the early headlights do, but with much less of a bulge). The rim that the chrome surround holds onto is shaved off and there's probably a bit of smoothing to do too. From what I could tell, the lens was somehow mounted from behind the guard... looked dam smooth..
kombi-troppo ·
Nice work there mate - I'm curious though, hows that exhaust paint holding up?
akean1 ·
cheeers guys, you can have a close look at day of and see my shoddy work😊
the paint on the muffler has stayed red so far, but it has only been idling. ill let you know after it goes for a decent run.
if you come accross those pics again chris, let me know. sounds interesting:thumb
oval TOFU ·
will do...
i doubt your work is shody....

wacked1 ·
now that would look cool pants and jumper.
FYI i studied anatomy at uni and have a real human skeleton at home. can't buy them these days.
cheers
