A meet , 2 days a Sat & Sun, Central Coast

Myself and Kai have been talking about this for so long it's not funny. Both being poms have been lucky enough to see the UK show scene we have enjoyed many overnights that are a big part of the shows.
Although okay most of the shows here are still a 1 day thing. No wonder attendence is low , who wants to drive so far for 3-4 hours of show/racing/swap meets etc. Recall that Valla feeling and what it meant to be able to drive , park up , relax and enjoy catching up with the AVD gang.
Although no Valla this is the general idea. Out of season ( Sept/Oct), coastal camping/ caravan park ( or similar) booked out for the w'end from Friday night , including Sat. Not a show , more a large cruise with a stop over! We'd have the perfect location to meet , great for all the family , have a band /dj for Sat night, etc etc.
At this stage i'm really after gauging who'd be up for this. No maybe 's depending on dates just a general reply ( may be interested)
I will let this roll for 3 weeks and then (hopefully) Take things further and move the post as not to block up the chat forum. We're so keen to get a good date on the calander , get heaps of clubs out etc. DNVK ( My Mob), Flat 4 etc etc something to maybe have a think about . So far our cruises that have been organised through the forum have been really good , just time to give folk what they want! Lets make this happen and have an overnighter !

Costs?? At this stage don't worry about it , won't be alot! This will be part funded by myself , Kai , others and a sponsor (yet tba , please u2u your interest) and obviously the gate money. If any money is made on this it will go to a charity chosen on the night.

Lets take this past an idea and see who's up for a cruise!

Hey Dan. I'm in the process right now of kicking off the Central Coast club again so anything that happens up this way is a good thing. We've got a cruise scheduled for 13th Feb - check the other thread - up to Newcastle for the Euro day. Would be great if you could come up and throw some ideas around.

For historys sake, in the past we had shows on the Central Coast. The first one - Virtu Weekend in 1980 something - remember that Birch? saw 80+ dubs cruising up the F3 to what was Old Sydney Town. We had another 3 or so shows [at the Haven Terrigal, The Ferneries, and at Forresters Beach], but no more....and the club died a slow death in the 90's.

Since moving back up here, we've now got 100+ phone numbers to call for the cruise, but unsure of the overall interest.

If what your suggesting does in need take the opposite year to Valla, I am sure the interest would be huge - not just from a VW perspective, but from a tourism perspective for the Central Coast. So if you're after a show of hands for keeness, my hand is up.

very ineterested in the 2day thing. coming from teh midnorth coast now, i would rather that than, the drive down and back being longer than the event itself.

Great ideas (wish it could happen here in S.A.)\We have loads of these back in England and you get thousands going to them, makes more sense to do it over here( In Aus)as we have to travel more k's to get to the shows.
It might encourage more people to go to a show as here in S.A. we have only 2 shows a year at the same location and we get the same cars at each show.
When you drive around Adelaide you see more show worthy cars that just dont attend.
I hope this goes well and then spreads to other states.

yeah me too. Sat arvo beers bbq n Sunday show at The Entrance or something would be great. Plenty of Sydney and Newcastle people... book out a caravan park!

ahhhh weekend events "drooolllll' how i miss those ... one of the few things the uk could do right... good on ya danny for giving it a go... hows about if it works out having one on the east coast?? there will be a fair few people that will not be able to go cuz of distance.... i know it makes for more of a run for the people from sydney and areas but u would have a whole load more people to laugh at/with 🙂... hope it all worksout fella and if the dates are right and the bajas done i'll give it my best to get there.........

As ever i have a good feeling about this. I know theres alot of work but worth it.

Look this really won't be much more of a gathering of vw's , in a camping site , by the coast . I'll sort the site and it's up to us from there.

Just so good not to be driving so far for so little

Ok Danny here's some more news. We also tried a Type 3 day [only 15 odd cars turned up :bounce] at Toowoon Bay - right next to the caravan park on the beach - a magic spot. The Type 3 show was in a park right next to the car park and the caravan park. Umina also has a caravan park too..... I'll mention the idea to Peter Korsche [runs VW Performance at West Gosford] and see if he has any other contacts.

Here's a thought - on the football ground / cricket ground at the Haven, Terrigal????

Thanks for that. Maybe a slightly larger place a little out of town. Thinking large camping/caravan site that can hold alot of folk and work out cheap for us. All about location!!!!
I'll wait a while and then start a blitz on every camp site and get the best deal on rates etc. Get our own vw village for a w'end!

Why nto try this place...really up for those who got lost a few decades back.....

It's a place called wooyong Caravan Pank.

There is NOThING there. Well okay, Byron is about 20km away, gold coast 20km the other way.

But across the road is the most fantastic beach, and no one to hassel you. You have to bring ur own fun. They have about 4 motel rooms for about $40/night..and caravans to rent.

About 5 km up the road are other van site etc (it's near pottsville etc.....but Woyong is great cause it is mostly national parks etc, and they apparently let u drive on the beach (great for the buggies and bajas to show off)

And u know hwo motels leave chocs on ur pillow, well Woyong leave cadburys blocks of chocs...And if u go at the right time, u can see the whales playing about 50 mts off the coas.

Beggist set back, they have bore water in the showers, and u have to pay for the fresh water (for showering anyway). And the bbqs are old 44 gl drums cut in half. Man I love the place. It is so safe.

Just thought I'd let u know about it. Everytime we go it is like stepping into a time warp.

danny sounds good, once ur organised i will round up the dubbers from the north

for me, the bryon option makes it more than a two day event. becomes like nambucca... threequarters of a day travel there and back, doesnt leave much for a weekend of fun.

unless youre trying for everybody on the east coast? maybe try for all in newcastle to woolongong first and then see how it turns out. am sure anybody outside that who wanna go would show.

jsut my opion though, as i was thinking maximum bang for kilometres travelled.

id be keen for an event like this abit closer to home than that

pity the glenworth valley area doesnt have flood lighting... could have our own vw festival!

Have to agree .Had a look on the map and it's too far North i'm afraid. I'm trying to make this a w'end where folk can drive from the Shire , Sydney , West sydney etc etc and Byron is gonna be a huge trek.
Very hard to please everyone but the Central Coast is about best placed. Some great venues around the area and if anyone that lives around there can they look out for suitable venues and pass it on to me.

How about Patonga Beach caravan Park? It's right on the water at Patonga (no surfing, but you can swim), nice n quiet, no through traffic, lots of camping areas (no cabins, though) yadda yadda and a great road in! 😉

I'm not sure of any open spaces up here we could camp on - not at the moment anyway. Maybe on someones farm up Kulnara / Mangrove Mountain? Or if they close down Mt Penang, I'm sure we could use that. The problem would be convincing the authorities to let us back out. Seriously though, 2 places spring to mind of good size.

Firstly, at Kariong as you come off the F3, there is an area on the left after the BMW dealer. This space has been used plenty of times for shows, and we could possibly book that out.

Second spot is Minjara [or whatever it's called] at Tumbi Umbi. Good size block with amenities too.

You don't want the involvement of the 'authorities' . You want to book it, turn up, and have fun. Near food and pub, too...

C'mon your miserable bunch , who's interested? You realise this is one of those things that when you hear how good it was , you'll kick yourself for not getting off your lazy ass and getting yourself there!

Look to get this going i'm going to put $500 of my own money towards getting the site ours for 2 nights and cheaper for anyone that wants to come.

I'm also looking for some form of backing from any of the vw related companies and in return will get some good publicity and exposure. Remember the TV crew at the Entrance for those that attended the DNVK cruise by VW FOOL.

C'mon guys and girls , more interest is needed!!!!

Hey Danny.
Don't know if you all would be interested.
But i was thinking of somewhere like Nelsons bay.
There is a place there called one mile caravan park,
It has cabins, onsite vans and camping.
Next door to the park is a big open field if you wanted to have a show and shine type setup.
It also backs onto one mile beach which joins samurai beach.
It has a keosk and all amenities.
Just 3 min drive to the local tavern at anna bay and about 7 or 8 mins to nelsons bay.

Port Stephens/Nelson

The site must be within walking distance of pub and hopefully restuarant and have something else to do (like surf/swim etc ... what's the best?

At nelsons bay you have all the water sports you could ever want.
If you went to onemile caravan park, then the Annabay tavern is not to far away. it also has a good bistro.
you also have resturants and clubs.
It also has a couple of vinyards within 10 mins drive for any of the ladies or wine buffs.
Any buggy owners that go can enjoy stockton dunes and samurai dunes.
The caravan park also has a pool, tennis court and mini putput couse.
You also have the tobogun run at salamander bay, with a olimpic size swimming pool and water slide.

danny if its on the coast i am there. dont know how else to help, but if you think of anything, jsut ask...
