No but I would be interested in one.

Never heard of them before but just found a pic for you. That is one weird looking car. Looks like it's amphibious.

I'll have another go at attaching the pic, damn apple macs!

Anthiron ·

a schwimmwagen was an amphibious car. it had 4wd in 1st gear to pull out of the water and a fold down propeller. though i cant see a replica having these things.

did u find a pic of an origional or a replica?

Anthiron ·

this is a real one

I think it was an original. It's on thesamba.com if you want to have a look at it. I would post a link but I'm still getting used to this computer.

Yes, I had heard of someone who was producing Kubel replicas (with metal pressed panels, not fibreglass or plastic) looking at a Schwimmen one, but had not heard if they actually did go ahead with it due to the curves etc and mechanicals required

Che Castro ·

how cool would that look with dumped on some BRMs or fuchs 🙂

Desert Bug ·

It could be considered that the Beach Buggy is loosely styled after the Schwimwagen, so how easy would it be to rehash a Manx to look like a Schwimmer.
Cheers, Ian.

only 4WD in 1st eh?

mmmm, imagine if you have it full time 4WD.......😎

squizy ·

I hear Ray Black is going to dump his and put on some fuches, 135's, and a stonking big motor. Got to love the Schwim....

Squiz....

Chewy ·

My old Auto VET teacher made his own Kubelwagen by pressing all his own panels and that..
Used to use it in war re-inactments, he drove it all the way from Geelong to sydney once, with a full load of passengers in metal bucket seats :duh

Easy, buy a Syncro :thumb

pete wood ·

yeh, buy a synchro and watch the gearbox go :puke

besides they are $4k for a second hand one, if you can find one. 🙁

Be better to build a kombi box with an extra long output shaft coming out the nose cone. I saw a setup like that in a 4WD turbo rally bug from the states. That also what Schwims had from factory, I was looking at the setup in a mag the other day.

Hey Chewy,
how did your teacher press all his own panels?

The_Bronze. ·

* Has mind boggling *

Oh - the dreams I will have tonight.

Bronze.

Freddie Fender ·

Still want one.
