The guy who sold me my bug told me it was 12v, I think, he told me a lot of crap like "no rust, engine runs great, windscreen wipers work, petrol guage works...blahdeblah". So how do I confirm that it is 12v?

Put the terminals of the battery on your tongue, the 12v ones tingle a little more than the 6volt.
sax ·
Seriously, look at the battery, if it has 3 filler caps it's 6v.
UncleRudi ·
Gee my tongue is sore and I can't get the taste out of my mouth. Do you mean three filler caps in total?
sax ·
Yep, 12v batterys have 6 cells, 6v ones have 3.
It's possible its a 12v system with a 6v starter left in it, usually can tell if the starter spins like a demon when you turn the key.

If you have a volt meter, just stick it across the terminals of the battery.
UncleRudi ·
Ok, will do once I've got this taste out of my mouth. Thanks for your help.
Anthiron ·
ok much easier. forget all that. take a bulb out of one of the lights. tail light is easiest. does it say 12volt or 6 volt. simple

Alrighty then, if it stays wet I'll have to drive the dreaded Daewoo!! UncleRudi (the car) doesn't like wet weather much and I don't like driving him in wet weather, we have a few leaks.
I will see you tonight.:party

open you decklid and read what it says on the regulator....6v or....12v
that would be the easiest with out pulling back seat up to check battery voltage.
UncleRudi ·
Thanks, I have multiple methods now and the winner is.....
