baybuscamperkid ·

after a bit of discussion on here it seems alot of us are surfers and many seem to have really cool sticks, so i thought i would start a post for u all to show off your 'other' wild rides.

to start us off here is a pic of my small wave board, a 5'10" single that i recently reglassed and resprayed.

also a link to another single i have now for sale on ebay click here

ColumBUS ·

wheres pyro? his family surfs. he taught me once, but i can barely stand up on dry land anyways

GL1972 ·

I'm a Kneeboarder. Heres one of mine. 6 foot, 24 1/2, 2 5/8 Tri Fin. Good to 6 feet surf.

Lowrider collects these he should have some very old ones to show.

Brendan

baybuscamperkid ·

wow, didnt realise you could get kneeboards that long! thought they were usually about 5', dont think i would like to try kneeboarding in 6' surf!

GL1972 ·

It's not often you get 6'+ to surf in. Maybe 5-6 times a year. Allways worth having a go though. 3-4' is the average around here. There is some great uncrowded beaches to surf at as well (shhhh secret!).

I've got a 6' pin tail as well as a 6' Quad Fish which has the same artwork as the one above. My 11yo son rides a 5'4" pintail kneeboard also.

Any more sticks??

Brendan

lowrider ·

Brendan,
howz it?
good taste in cars & surfcraft eh?
Here's my loudest kneeboard; guaranteed to get you noticed...
Parkes/Friar Tuck 5'10"

cheers
Andy

lowrider ·

something older...
a 'paipo' from the 60's, about 4'

GL1972 ·

Andy,
I've seen you on KSUSA. You have quite a collection. Did you surf with the Sunny Coast club a couple of weeks ago? I caught up with Meat and Techno whilst I was up there in September. The board above got badly damaged by Qantas on the trip up. Lucky I packed the brand new FT quad also. It now has a nasty fin chop to the rail from a dropin teenager who lost control and Tboned me 4 weeks ago. I AM staying calm!

Some of your more arty boards would look good in a display with a cabrio or early kombi. Would love to see pics.

Brendan

lowrider ·

Brendan, small world... green beetle avatar?
didn't make it to the Windansea club comp but have met Meat at a barbie (heh) a while back;
don't know Techno.
Were you at the worlds up here a couple of years back?
Bummer about the dings, you should try Noosa Heads when there are 200 out at nationals!
how's the quad fish go??
Andy

ps
probably nobody cares about this stuff but us, hey!

GL1972 ·

Didn't go to the worlds (I'm not at that level). Competed at Coffs Last May though. Had a lot of fun especially the 4hr session at Crescent Head on the way back.

The quad is very different. A real rail to rail board. Turns on a 10c piece and is very fast. It suffers in full messy waves though.
I've got a pic on another computer which I'll post here.

Re: Ps: who cares if nobody cares.

Vw nutter ·

72FASTY ·

well its one of me surfing, on my board. Good enough i reckon. Favourite spot in indo.

72FASTY ·

baybuscamperkid ·

mmm. would love to head over to indo, my surfing mate raves about it.

bus914 ·

here's one of mine: 6'4" roundtail with glitter fins.

jenz58 ·

What other car make enthusiasts would start posting pics of their boards?? 😎

This is so part of the culture...very sweet

VDUBXTC ·

This is my lattest creation.
I made it from a blank that would usually be used for big wave boards (GUNS)
Its 7'4".

h ·

oh sweet looks like lots of fun comin your way soon!!
pray for surf :thumb

VDUBXTC ·

hopefully.

But i have to work out how the dam things work again, its been 9 years since i have ridden one

h ·

its just like ridin a bike of sorts..
just beware of fin chops... ouch :cry

i got this momento from a new 8' stick i was ridin at the sand pumpin jetty, southport...
only 40 mins into a great fun session and bam..
next thing broken and bleeding on the beach and a long way from the bus..
minus one fin but added 5 stitches to my left foot ouch! 😠

lowrider ·

nice one, manx; you glass it too?
(maybe thats a dumb question, looking at the manx's on your posts)

Brendan,
where's yer fish??

baybuscamperkid ·

nice work indeed manx, glassing is a biatch of a job. looks like it will be a fun board to ride too, my father has a 7'6" hybrid that was custom made for him, tis a little skinnier in the nose then yours and has the widest point a little further back, is a blast to ride, so easy to handle and great for improving tecnique, as everything just happens that little bit slower when riding it so you get a real feel for things.

Robo ·

Here's mine
Owned em both for more than 20 years.
Rob...😎

Robo ·

Here's another.

Hi Byronbus
is it an old one?
post a piccy of it

here's an early 80's model

[Edited on 27-2-2005 by lowrider]

byronbus ·

Its probably an 80's board, its in the rafters of a garage somewhere, i see if i can dig it out...

I have several mals from the 60's and some early 70's single fins, I'll get some pics up soon.

I snapped the nose off an early 70's jackson board on sunday, probably reduced its value by a couple of hundred dollars...

lowrider ·

ouch!
:cry

GL1972 ·

The rainbow warrior single fin looks like the one that put the fin chop into my new quad 6 weeks ago.

Robo
That McCoy is a technicolor yawn! Would have been a hot item in it's era!

Byronbus,
You'd probably know that the original shaper lives in Byron and has shaped out of there since 1983. David makes great boards and is a real good bloke to talk to (and he rips on a kneelo).

Lowrider,
My quad pics are on my other PC. I'll try to post tonight. No surf this weekend. Out before daybreak yesterday at Avoca. Watched 15 mals go out in 1 foot weak swell. Went back home to bed.

It would be interesting to hear from everyone as to why they ride the watercraft that they do.

I ride kneeboards because of the sentation of speed due to the low riding stance (just like a Go-Kart) and it's all about trim and weight transfer. Carving turns and long cut backs, hit the lip and land it turn it on for me.

Brendan

baybuscamperkid ·

i ride my 6'6 Nev because it is the sweetest shaped modern shorty i have ridden, just handles soo well, but for style i ride the single when Im not feeling up to the challenge of the Nev, much slower and easier board to ride, real smooth turning, but in desperate need of a more powerful fin. when it gets bigger and dumpier there is nothing like bodysurfing or bodyboarding when it's just stupidly dumpy..

Robo ·

Yeah
The McCoy's great, its very thick compared to todays wafer boards, and Im a bit on the heavy side, and its only 5'9, so I can ride it still. The skipp is a little thinnner and it sinks under me, and its a real struggle paddling it, so it dosent get much use.
Rob...😎

winerot ·

this is my ride its hard to find as production stopped about
20yrs ago, can anyone guess what it is (clue: 5ft no glass)

byronbus ·

a foamy 😉

winerot ·

thats quick
if you know where i can get one a finders fee in the offering

Robo ·

has to be a Hanimex!
Rob...😎

byronbus ·

I might know of one...will see

57kombi ·

I can now join this gang!!!

Cheers

waltermitty ·

Go the FRIAR TUCK . parksie shure knows what hes doing!
I must get a few shots of some of mine but Im off to Cresent for two weeks on Friday so it might be a while.
Mitcl

winerot ·

yes the old hanimex thats all i ride nowadays, too old to change
but not old enough for a mal. i have about 10 broken ones under house
& 1 good one left.
byronbus if you do find one i come & pick it up will pay good money & will
make sure its worth the effort for you or anybody else that has a hanimex or know of one floating around
started surfing them at tamarama in syd 30 odd yrs ago when you couldnt ride a board in flags & since i moved here 10 yrs ago started up again
blows people away when i paddle out on a foamy & ride it like a board.
thanks wally

GL1972 ·

Here is the Friar Tuck Quad Parksey shaped for me. Bloody fast board. I can't wait to get back to Crescent myself, especially the back beaches.

Brendan

GL1972 ·

Another Kneeboard. Wizstix Tri Pin Tail 6.0. Good in bigger surf but too much rocker for anything under 2-3 foot. Don't use it much. My son learnt on this board.

Brendan

lowrider ·

good stuff!
Crescent looks like a great set-up but its always been flat when I've (infrequently)
passed thru...

winerot, love to see someone on something different.
there was a foamy on ebay a couple of weeks back; will look out for one.
how do they ride??
:bounce

[Edited on 2-3-2005 by lowrider]

byronbus ·

Man all you knee boarders, whats the world coming to?

lowrider ·

the truth is out there....

GL1972 ·

Spent 4 days at Crescent in early November. 2 days at back beaches and 2 days at the point. Don't think it got under 3 foot. Had a 4-6 foot morning session north of point Plummer, 3 kneeboarders and no-one else for 3 hours. There was Dolphins everywhere every day (Those buggers Rip!). Like I said I can't wait to get back there.

Brendan

Marineboy ·

Well this is me and My stick, Although you cannot see it I am sure your able to guess it would be under me, He He
The Kite is a 14m Vegas North Kite and man in a Bit of wind it can pull like a TRUCK...!!!

This was taken on the Far Northern Outer Great Barrier Reef, Launching from an Island and followed by a Rubber Duckie to rescue my ass when I go to deep...

Mind you this is only my second day on the board, I have got alot better since, Ripping it up now...

[Edited on 14/3/2005 by Marineboy]

so...... any waves??

GL1972 ·

Shark attack near my local break yeaterday.

Guy was surfing at crackneck on the central coast. 4 metre Great White took a swipe and knocked him offhis board. He was by himself although there was a couple of bodyboarders closer in. The place is only surfable at 4 foot + and is only accessable after a 20 mins walk along rocks. VERY deep dropoff. The reason I have never surfed there.

Surfed Umina point last Saturday at 4-6 foot. Bloody great session. Also a supposed sharky location.

When we get into the water we enter THEIR foodchain! The landlord in the dark grey suit.

Brendan

h ·

so did he get got by the landlord or did he escape the eviction notice on his life?

GL1972 ·

He made it to shore without a scratch. Said he saw it after he was knocked off and reached down to grab his leggie to pull his board back to him.

Scary moment.

Check out the picks of Crackneck at it's best.

gnarly:o. looks like the tow-in crew is there.
Mister Whitey obviously didn't want him...what time of day was it? cloudy water??

[Edited on 27-3-2005 by lowrider]

[Edited on 27-3-2005 by lowrider]

GL1972 ·

Crackneck is quite and easterly spot. Was Friday morning I think. Fairly clean water but overcast. There has been lot's of salmon and taylor running lately, quite a sight when you see them in the waves. I'd say he was mistaken for something a bit tastier.

Brendan

h ·

here a pic of my stick...
a 9'2 minty from straddie..
mmm bit like a lime splice ice block from the old days.. 😉
