Well this thread was going great until the recent crash and quite a few movies were identified with Vee Dubs having a central role or maybe just a cameo part.
MOVIES and PROGRAMS SO FAR from memory:
1. The Herbie movies...1959 Beetles I think
2. The Thomas Crown Affair- Steve Mcqueen original : Great Manx sequence on the beach
3. Jaimie Oliver's 23 Window on his cooking program in UK
4. WIlly Wonka and the Chocalate factory- Veedubs galore
I think the French Connection has a great microbus in it somewhere, will have to get it out again as the memoryis a bit hazy.
Info on the Herbie beetles would be appreciated...are there any in Australia??

Here is a link to an interesting twist on the Herbie discussion.....looks like the original Herbies are alive and well...this one had a Porsche Super 90 motor and did 185kph in the movies!!!
Almost famous has a microbus, a few utes, lots of splitties in general and a few bugs.

Dont forget DuDu and Gone in 60 seconds original
and Bullet, Lots Dubs
Its written in that article that its easy to make a Herbie replica,
A coment written by someone who has never done it.
There are harder tasks in life but I wouldn't class it as easy, Its easy to make a dodgey herbie.

Movie"Consequence" on Movie channel last night and again today... starts again in an hour or so...
1964 Beetle with narrow front blinkers LHD goes up stairs etc in a Police chase scene..... Very Good....
Late model police cars chasing it on the freeways....
80 comes up on the speedo.....
needle in the vertical position??? [80kph??]
Johannesburg is mentioned in the credits so I'm assuming it was a South Africian beetle.....
Movie was unusual... made by the germans.. in South Africa?

At the start of "McCLOUD" on TV1
- He jumps off a building into the back seat of a 1303 Beetle Cabriolet....
What about the 'stupid' girl in McLeods Daughters...
who bogs her home made convertible beetle.....
don't they know that a beetle will go most places that a front engined car can't... as the weight over the driven rear wheels just keeps them going....
This doesn't seem to happen with a front wheel drive car??
especially with the front wheels turned 🙂🙂
I drove Beetles and type 3s over very muddy terrain including clay regulary,[years ago] in which other vehicles couldn't be driven....
and late model Herbies - doesn't work....!!
