seats

barls ·

hey everyone i had this up before but it was lost.
the question was what seats have you used in a bug that were not standard. i.e. what make and model were they out of and how hard were they to fit as i need a set for chaos as his standards have twists in them from the crash and id like something a little sportier than stock

baybuscamperkid ·

very early subaru buckets (late 70s) look period (look like rx3 buckets) and feel fantastic.

barls ·

really they arent too wide for the sbug are they. btw i also have a set of seats for sale if anyone is interested but no pics at this stage of them. i bought them but they were too wide to fit them

BiX ·

uuuuuuum i have run honda seats before. I know run aerotech race seats.

just go down the jap wreckers with a tape measure and look for what you want.

Yep, I have used Honda Civic seats in the past...

The last two set we (my Brother and I) have fitted have come from a Jap wreckers, just wandered in there with a tape measure and measured anything that we liked the look of....just make sure that they fold forward so that you can still access the back seat... We have no idea what they are out of!

barls ·

thanks guys thats what ive started to do ive looked at suzuki gti, and early lancer so far.

Gracey ·

Honda Prelude seats in my bug. Tight fit and they are a bit heavy.

BiX ·

one thing to look at also is how the mnounting points are attached to the base of the seat. Most of the honda seats etc have varied height mounting points so you have to use packers etc. while the after market seats area ll the same level adn easy to attach.

one other thing to note was that to get blue plate in qld the seats must have a aust standard sticker on them WHEN be inspected........ or i was told when i got mine inspected the first time.

barls ·

already have the engineer organised mate as ill be getting both the seats and belts done this time as i still have the one from the t4 conversion

twoguns ·

i remeber taht diahatsu feroza seats were thin, and of a good support. maybe looka t some of those.

and i dont kow about your seats, yet.i havent gotten that far.

barls ·

its cool mate if you dont want them im sure i can sell them to someone else with something other then a bug

baybuscamperkid ·

definitely not too wide. look like a crossover between a race and a normal seat. this is a pic of one before re-upholstering.

barls ·

thanks mate ill let you all know what i end up with

battybat ·

honda prelude seats in my bug, bit of a tight fit getting to the handbrake, but nothing you can't live with, and they were inspected properly, with report, so must technically be fine. pretty comfy too

barls ·

got any pics of these seats mate and how are they mounted? bolted to the floor or on the original slides

barls ·

after spending some time looking the front runners for the seats are skyline, swift gti, lancer( maybe) and golf

bugeyedbabe ·

let us know what u come up with, as i am thinking of changing the supers later, once i get thru the body work, paint, motor etc 😀

barls ·

have done excel seats but they were too hard and the wrong shape for me.

bugeyedbabe ·

found anything softer?? and what shape r u ??

barls ·

about 178cm and wide and solid. the skyline werent bad but i havent decided yet

bugeyedbabe ·

never even occurred to me to take into account difference.

what about t3. thought i saw someone tall mention this was a good fit for them. and little needed in change over

barls ·

you mean t3 transporter dont you.
no i want something sportier so when i drive im not having to hold on as much cause the seat will hold me

bugeyedbabe ·

didn't think so...

might be

will see if i can find thread.

71superbug ·

how about some MX5 seats or something? integra seats were nice last time i checked. who cares about the runners. have them in a fixed place. rip the back seats out and have them set up for you.

passengers can suffer 🙂

Anthony

bugeyedbabe ·

nice...but my passagers whinge better than i can ingore...

bugeyedbabe ·

lazer tx3 was the ones i was thinking of...

bugeyedbabe ·

or like golde cars
968 porsche (mid 80s)

barls ·

ill see what i can find this weekend

bugeyedbabe ·

barls what about toyota crowns....manx put them in his..

check this thread..

http://www.aussieveedubbers.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=36013

they look comfy

battybat ·

just weld the seat frames onto the original beetle runners, not too hard to do

barls ·

battybat wrote:just weld the seat frames onto the original beetle runners, not too hard to do
it all depends on your wielding skills mate its hard to get the qualifications to wield and get approved by an engineer

baybuscamperkid ·

i found wqith the scoobi seats that when you take the original rails off, the 4 bolt holes can easily be matched to the base of a kombi seat, so i have just bolted the base to the seat as if it were rails, am hoping that will be fine legally as it involves no real modification.

barls ·

thats in the grey area mate i think because you could argue each way ie that its not stock but uses the stock mounting points. that ones beyond me id be calling the vic roads tech boys.

barls ·

here is what im leaning toward, had a chat to the owner and he says they are skyline but my old man who worked for nissan before he started his own shop doesnt think so though it could be

or maybe these

barls ·

ok went to the AAAA trade show and was very impressed by the procar and autotechika seats might try some of them

barls ·

was going to go the autotechnica sp6 but instead found a set of s13 silva seats yesterday on my magical mystery tour. will try to fit them this weekend after i talk to the upholster about colours

barls ·

here they are before the upholster

bugeyedbabe ·

noice...do u have to mod to put them in?

barls ·

yes i will ill take some pics when i do. it took me a while to find a set that wasnt to wide

Golde60 ·

sorry to jump in too late, looks like you bought them already

mine are from a 968 (not as ex$y as a 911 pair) and they are wider but not too wide for my car.

pics in my members rides.

i got them for about $200, but they were FUBAR.

trimmer has worked miracles ($$) to get them looking like they do

barls ·

its alright mate there are others that are following this thread for seats for there own cars. so it will be useful for them

VDUBXTC ·

I have used
Recaro SE seats which VWCOOL now has
Toyota levin seats, which VWCOOL now has. 😀
Honda CRX seats.
Cobra Clubmans.
All these fitted well without any fowling on doors or handbrakes.

And as BEB pointed out, toyota crown seats. (Not recomended) though

Also a mate has a nice pair of celica seats from a GT4 which are electric and they fit nicely in his bug

DIY-DUB ·

ford laser TX5 seats for me, fit just nicely, pulled mine from a baja so had adaptors already, easy fit, comfy as, 400x better than stockers nicer looking, much comfier more supportive and fit my largeish frame comfortably in them, dont hit handbrake or anything, touch the heater cable levers when upright tho, not really an issue and are about 3cm from the door trim

BiX ·

Cobra Suzuka, jsut fit in........

helbus ·

Holden Gemini coupe seats are small and have a fold-forward lever for rear seat access.

ctefeh ·

My donor bug has Toyota Corolla coupe (early 80's model?) seats extremely booty fabbed onto the VW sliders. The sliders/adapter is well made, but appears only brazed together, and using washers for spacers is a no-no.
And because of that, not going into the wife's dub!

Nice seats, smaller than subi seats I've seen in bugs, crap colours though.

I can post pics (even disassemble shots) or measurements if anyone wants....

I'm going to check out Mitsubishi Lancer seats personally.

Ctefeh

PrettyBlueBug ·

I used to own a s13 Silvia, was such a nice car and the seats were indeed awesome.
If my Bug's seats weren't in as good condition as they are, I'd put Silvia ones in for sure! Imagine leather ones..... mmmm..... :P

ctefeh ·

Pic of the seats after the shagpile covers were taken off and cleaned.
Measurements are :
Max width of the seat bottom = 510 mm
Max width of seat upper = 530mm
width at top of seat upper = 405mm
height of seat upper = 570mm
Total height from bottom of rails = 780mm

Next is the bottom with the rails.
The mount bolt spacing is 300mm front to back, 380mm wide.
The rails are 400mm outside edge to outside edge.
One side requires 5/8 " spacers between seat and rail.
The rail itself has a slope with the rear being 75mm from base to inner pipe, front being 55mm.
The "pipe" measures at 20mm diameter.

I tried to shrink the photos as small as possible.....
