Cant help you with a compressor, but there is a US company doing what appear to be well made complete kits for the VW, Ghia, Bus and early porsche's. His main market seams to be VW.
Pricey kits, but they are totally complete. $1295 US.

They are just an automotive aircon company. Had another look last night after I posted the link. I wouldnt put it on a show car, as the compressor sits right next to the generator, which I think is quite ugly. But aside from that I see nothing wrong with it, and they will make the kit to suit the car as far as I can tell.
Go to www.thesamba.com and do a search through their forum, should be able to find out about what they are all doing to their cars.

Trouble is that they only make them for left hand drives last I checked.
This is OK if you already have the bits that go inside the car but if you don't, all the stuff is set up for the wrong side.

i was poking around the wreckers the other day and found a tiny compressor on a late 80-early 90 celica measured about 10 inches long 5 across very small there around just look

hahah yep. its is at the apholstras i chose cashmeer seats with darker cashmeer carpet cream hoodlining. vw emblems on seats and carpet in black. and black speaker shelf for the back. and then i havto put the motor and gearbox in. followed by my rubbers and windows. then drive away with only petrol to pay. 😉 i have been taking photos of the whole thing so i will put up a post from start to finish.
