so i got this thing that LOOKS like this in my buggy in a similar position, but is black plastic.. its got 3 wires going to it, 2 one side 1 another and one of those wires comes from the generator...
is this a voltage regulator?

Yep, that one is. It's for a generator though, not an alternator. There is a difference!

cool man, thanks andy.. yeah its for my 1600tp buggy, has a black one mounted on a wooden block to the body of the buggy... have a good weeked man..
