G'day,
No I haven't sold it OS, just moving from the Desert to the Tropics. Have scored a job at Yirrkala Community at Gove NT (North East Arhnemland), so the Desert Splitty is going on the barge from Darwin around the top to Gove after Easter. We're driving the 1500ks to Darwin and should get there Good Friday (2 day trip) and spend a few days with our 2nd Daughter and her family, then fly over to Gove after Easter.
We lived at Yirrkala for six years in the '80s so should be interesting going back. By the way, I had an '74 Microbus when we went there in '83.
Cheers, Ian.

Very Cool, I used to live in Gove from 1980-87 when I was in Primary school, I loved the place.

Hey Empi, we're all in dream time aren't we? specially when it comes to VWs.

Rhys, it is a sweet place although could be a bit breezy up there over the next couple of days with that cyclone comming across the Gulf.

rhddlxbd, no probs, what is SMH?

Hey Graham, if you about 23 you probly went to school with Rhett (PHAT BUG), and yeah we love the place too!

Yeah Jenz, will put up some pics once we get over there, it's right on the ocean and the beaches are unreal.

Cheers, Ian.

Hey ~airfooled~, I was on a 12 month contract (renewable) but was prepared to stay here for 2-3 years but after recent situation down south that required my wife to stay down for a while (six weeks) after I came back up here, we realized just how hard it is to get in and out of here in an emergency as we have only one plane into here a week that you can book a seat on. Realisticly during the wet season it could take up to 10 days to fly to Melbourne whereas over at Yirrkala the Gove Airport is only 13ks from home and you can be in Melbourne in a day so when you get the chance to live and work in a place like Yirrkala you take it
When my wife flew back up my choices were to either drive to Darwin (2 days, 1500ks and back again) or to Broome (10 hrs, 900ks and back again) to pick her up, and as we hadn't seen Broome we went that way.
And you wouldn't believe it, I stopped at a roadside stop for a spell and went for a walk into the scrub and found a '66 Splitty, pretty knocked about, probably been there for 15-20 years I reckon and not retrievable.

Cheers, Ian.
