Just me but i can't see the benefit of narrowing the beam 6inches? Can someone knowledgable please explain wot incredibly fantastic benefits this has?
So is it $1800 u want? might be best to edit that into the first post.
Pat
eirecooled ·
Looks incredably kool but hard to go round roundabouts or reverse park or normal park, etc etc.................but looks way kool.
Was interested, but bought the flash '60 instead.
Resto64 ·

It was just an exercise to see how extreme you can go with narrowing etc. I needed to find out exactly what was involved in doing this work (shortening steering rods, body clearancing etc).
It was a hell of a lot of work. But I feel the end result is pretty stunning. It certainly turned heads and as I was told when I picked up my trophy at the show, it really was the talking point.
Like Paul (Resto64) says it`s like saying why bother with a lot of other stuff. Why bother messing about with shitty old Volksies??? Because its fun and I strive to be different.
If you don`t like it fair enough but I don`t give a toss what other people think. It`s like Dave`s (57kombi) topic in the general chit chat forum "what is a Rat", I disagree that there is a right or wrong way to build a Rat, there are no rules.
It actually drives really well now I have got the castor angle correct and had the wheel alignment sorted. Roundabouts are no problem, in fact I have only lost about 1/2-3/4 of a turn lock to lock which is only really noticeable when doing 3 point turns or parking in a tight space.
Positive comments only from now on please!! (joke for those people who don`t get it).

.
mattie ·
gee my car looks kinda low in that photo !!!
i love this car if i didnt have such a steep driveway and an empty wallet i would seriously think about this great buy for 1800 bucks😉
57 Chook Shed ·
Thanks Mattie.
To pay someone to do this sort of suspension work would cost about $1200 I reckon. So with 3 months rego, the visor and the venetian, the car is pretty much free!!
ragged ·
Mmmm.
Not my idea of a rat but...more of a snail!
Perhaps this is the beginning of something new.
Bug + Snail = SLUG!!!
Of course it would have to retain standard engine to comply!
Thoughts?
Cheers
Dave
bond ·

kombi_kid ·

Great work on getting it like it is. I think if i thought i could get away with the mods in qld i would be askin gthe powers that be if we could have another one !!!
But I dont think the qld transport would allow your mods, if i'm wrong well !!!!!!!!!
Good luck on selling it.
57 Chook Shed ·
I`ll supply it with a free stock beam. Just swap `em over for your roadworthy cert and then put the other one back on!!!
BenettonVW ·
