Where is the best place to get brake parts for a 61 splity kombi. I was thinking brake pipes, fixed and flexible, brake shoes, wheel cylinders and drums etc. These parts are easily available right. That is a silly question isn't it. Any advice greatfully received.

Dont bother trying to ship brakelines from overseas, get your old ones and take them to any brake place that makes brake pipes.
I did, it took 1 day and cost about $120 for all of the hard lines.
The flexible ones are available at any good VW shop near you.
Also for the brake shoes just get your old ones fitted with new shoes.
Same place that does the hard lines will re-line your original brake shoes.

Go along n see Vintage Vee Dub at Campsie 9789-1777, they can make or have all the bits you will need
best to take all the old stuff and brake lines so you get the right size.
dont think you will find any drums so dont throw any bits away until you have the right ones. Does your model have a split case gearbox ???
Beerboy ·
many thanks for the replies, don't throw things away, like that learnt the hard way. not sure about the gearbox, its got the reduction boxes so I guess so

Have a look at the center line of the box same as the engine. it should be split right down the middle... if its the early type... or a tunnel type for the later models...

I think it should be a later one as its a 61.
Mind you the way things get mixed and matched over the years it could be anything????
