try if its a super it has a 1600 tp not a 1300 mate. id try a twin barrel progressive vacum secondary webber or webber clone( off a lada niva) and a 1" 3/8 exhaust setup mate. it will go like the clappers. heres a few threads from here

Bizarre's link should be read. Very useful info. It all depends on how much you want to spend though.

My advice from experience, if you are going to change the carb get twin carbs. They cost more but icing is a major problem on my single IDF even with heater pipes attached. Basically means I spend more on fuel and the engine is less responsive...

VWCOOL ·

Twin 'Kadron' carbs pop up here every now and then for $3-500. Those and an exhaust will give you a few more herbs... not much, but some

felony...mtor were 1300 in the standards, but supers had a 1600..

that is
71 standard bettle = 1300
71 super beetle = 1600

check to see if u have the original motor, if u have, then it should be 1600.

If not, grab the motor number and post here, and we may be able to tell u if it is a 1300 or 1600.

My s72 had it's motor replaced with a 1500 (i think) haven't got into checking it out fully.

that's where u start...work out if it's original or replaced...silly to buy stuff to up the 1600, only to find out someone replaced it with a 1300 4 years ago when the 1600 died (and the 1300 was on their floor at the time)

hope it helps

ColumBUS ·

if ur running a 1300 single port motor, grab a 1600tp. i know you said dont buy a bigger engine, but for the same price as a pair of carvys you can pick up a whole engine, and its only 2 hours max to get them out/in.

THEN you put the webers, extractors, exhaust etc

Felony ·

ok, i havent got engine numbers yet, however looking at where the manifold bolts to the heads, its not just a single lil pipe, its bigger, so i believe that would be a twin port?
