Spiders in cars

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/36072/spiders-in-cars

boersch ·

3 days ago I went out to take Boris for a spin, open the door and the whole interior is a maze of spiderwebs (must've happened overnight) so I freaked out and decided not to drive him. The next morning I get my little brother who ISNT arachnophobic to clear out the car and what does he find? A freaking huntsman the size of my fist (big hands!) taking up residence in Boris. The deathblow missed so for the past 3 days I've had a hunstman hiding in my car and I'm too shitscared to drive it. We tried fumugating Boris with mortein but there's no dead spiders yet so theres no way I'm getting in! Has anyone got any tips on removing these lovely animals from cars? If it jumped out at me while I'm driving, I'd crash and probably kill myself! Please someone help! If you can't already tell I'm arachnophobic.

Would there be any vents etc. that I could close up to stop them from entering? I remember seeing the demister vents above the dash covered in webs so possibly it came in through there?

mscabrio ·

Your story gives me the heeby jebbies. I hate spiders !!!

I have a family of spiders in my work car and I can't kill them.

Maybe you might need some professional help ie: Dawsons ?

boersch ·

If I can't get someone to kill it tonight I guess the professionals will have to do it. Anyone had any experience with this?

ancientbugger ·

Sorry, can't help but I know what you're saying, I once practically drove my buggy from outside the car after a huntsman crawled out from under the dash, left foot on the accelerator bum on the side of the car trying to figure out what to do next!!! Hey how about throwing a cat in there, our old one used to chase and eat huntsmen.

HotRodMatt ·

Put a few frogs and maybe a bird or two in there!

Or a bigger spider!

EgeWorks ·

I had a big fat huntsman in my bug. I didn't care but it freaked my girlfirend right out. She wouldn't go near the car till I got it out. I just looked around till I could see it then poked it with a ruler and it ran out and I whacked it in a jar and threw it in the garden. They don't bite you but it's a weird feeling to touch them...

byronbus ·

huntsman bite and they bloody hurt...they wont kill you though, just make you feel sick...used to get them to bite for a challenge, and red backs, ah the ole days when i was a kid, the fun we used to have...

andrewh ·

According to the song, a bird should go in next 🙂

HotRodMatt ·

They don't bite you but it's a weird feeling to touch them...
Wanna bet! Hurts too.

And like all spider bites the risk of infection from them is pretty high.

I've been bitten (twice) by a redback too (night in intensive care). While the Huntsman isn't as painful I sure as hell wouldn't want another bite from either!

bugeyedbabe ·

oooo

i remember when my friend who was a mechanic fixed my car, and his friendly family huntsmen jumped in for the ride....

and dropped on my whilst i was driving...freaked me right out...

anyway, i kept driving (what else can u do in sydney peak hour traffic) and eventually it came out again..

well i musssshed him real good and threw him out my window...

about a week later my friend was telling me how no one in the family had seen this huntsmen, and how weird it was since it had been at their house for about a year.....each night this thing would weave a web, adn each morning it would hide under the gutter....

apparently the family had come to think of it as one of their own pets.

never had the heart to tell him i mussshed it up real good, and that it now sits in gymea....on a road, rotting away

bus914 ·

I had a huntsman walk across the ceiling from my window to the passengers while driving one morning.

Another time, this time at night, I started the car and switched on the lights to find a huntsman covering the entire area of the speedo.

Solution: I set one of those roach bomb spray cans overnight inside the car, haven’t had the problem since.

Doug Sweetman ·

Every Toyota my family has ever owned (5 or six I guess) has come with a spider from the factory 🙂

Worst was the one hiding under the fule flap, that gave me a fright when I opened it.....

NEver had a huntsman though..... nasty.

Special Air Service ·

Hunstman city at my place.
We stayed at a c'van park at South West Rocks once and when we came home from tea the bathroom ceiling was covered in literaly hundreds of what looked like baby huntsman spiders about the size of your little finger nail. Hit em with the mortein and they all started abseiling down from the ceiling and we ended up with heaps of dead spiders suspended from the ceiling. Freaky.Had an indoor plant at home with a nest in it and a similar thing happened when they all hatched.

Starbug ·

ive had geckos, frogs and a small bird (must have been looking around...) but never a spider.

get your non-arachnophobic brother to have a look around and poke it out with a stick.
my sis is extremely arachnophobic and she had a small huntsman in her car the other day... and i just poked it out with my finger.

kara&herkombi ·

Yeah ive got a few spiders that make my kombi their home!! but they are only little..

My biggest problem at the moment is cockroaches!! 😠
I park the kombi next to busland so i suppose its a warm spot to call home.. but not for much longer :o hehehe

bugeyedbabe ·

my sister is so scared of spiders...u just ahve to mention that u saw one and she begins to shake...

so everytime she begins to really piss me off.....i tell her a spider story...

but she really has to p me off....and that alot of work to do...

kombikim ·

with all that insectacide the thing either would have gone out the same way it got in, or died somewhere where you cant see it

akean1 ·

try and think of him (probably her if its a big one) as your friend, give it a name. that usualy makes me feel better about hairy things hanging around😉

karmen ·

juss call .............spiderrrrrrmannnnnnnnnnnnnn !

karmen ·

karmen ·

bugeyedbabe ·

:P

love it karmen

karmen ·

was her name ...Charlotte ??

EgeWorks ·

Damn I never knew that hutsman's bite humans! I won't be picking them up anymore then... I knew they reared up when you provoke them but didn't think they bit much... hmmm...

frenzix ·

the biggest problem with spider bites is the parasites that live around their fangs, they can produce some very serious problems... such as your skin eating away a few mm each week until CHOP off comes your limb. White tail spiders and wolf spiders are the biggest culprits for these parasites. I had a daddy long legs in the house once, freaked me out so i smashed it's brains in with my wifes pillow.

winerot ·

put my wetsuit on a few yrs ago, felt a leaf in there so
i reached in to retrieve it, not a leaf a huntsman & a sore left cheek
still had a good surf that day. ouch ouch

gonna try that tonight, thanks 😀

jenz58 ·

Must admit I had a feel around in my gardening shoes today before I put them on...had the gloves on to do it....

Walked through my rose arch and got caught in a BIG web....freaked me.....checked ALL over for a nasty spider...LUCKILY none...PHEW

Not had a visible spider in my cars for so long...NICE

Drive one day and my daughter said..'Mum don't look up!!'...as she screamed for me to stop.... :jesus

bugeyedbabe ·

don't ya love the way ppl say ...i don't want u to panic but...

right at that moment i KNOW i'm gonna panic...

panic, scream, hurl, throw things...any of the above...

buzzbug ·

I had a largish spider scurry across the dash of my old commodore as i was driving out of my gf/wifes driveway.
My mate pointed it out as it went across, as he turned to look at me, i was out of the car and watching it roll away along the driveway.......without a driver and a confused look mate.

buzzbug ·

excuse me,

i have to go wind up the windows in my bug now............

dam you........:cussing:cussing:cussing

jenz58 ·

lol...hmmmmm....I think I've left a vent window open ...EEK!! ...and I've upset all my resident spiders today when I gardened...probably all waiting in my bed to get me...nightmares

I know someone on here who's INTO spiders....like bird eating ones...and keeps them for pets....used to always check under the toilet seat when I visited

...you never know this thread may just bring him out 😀

frenzix ·

you are about 5-6 foot tall, and weigh about 50-150 kilo (sorry but this is an internet forum) you have two whopping great hands, therefore you win the fight. If you find it slap it trust me you will win. Just be glad you don't live around the blue mountains where theres millions of funnelwebs, now they're deadly. But then again i know of a couple people been bitten by them and you hardly ever die.. unless you can't get to the hospital but the good thing is hospitals are everywhere. Anyway i don't think i'm helping anymore either. Just use this as an excuse to get over your illness and throw yourself into the fireing line and become one with nature.

frenzix ·

it's way to early in the morning

bugeyedbabe ·

should i ask what ur doing up so early in the morning??

frenzix ·

just got up early cause i had a nap after work yesturday arvo

bugeyedbabe ·

see...i'd still be napping now anyway...

cept i had to drive the man to airport.

Stanley ·

I was driving down Ipswich Rd a few years ago and noticed something out of the corner of my eye...the biggest 'huntsman' I'd ever seen (then again aren't they all).

To prevent it from coming inside I quickly wound up the window only to pin it by the leg to the outside (luckily).

Drove the rest of the way to work with this spider stuck to the window...people tooting their horns to bring it to my attention..as if I didn't know the f@#&ing thing was there.

To scared to open the window in case it came in.......:cry

bugeyedbabe ·

lol...

i love the way ppl point out the obvious things...

think .hey, i think ur going bald...i never knew a guy who didn't know that first...

like u can miss a huntsmand in ya window..

ecckkkk

didn't they notice the scared look and screaming...

carisma ·

i get them in the car and use the old moreten spray and then wait for the buggers to come out and suck them up with the vacum cleaner and then leave the vacum out side so they can go to live at my neighbours place,,,,,,,,colleen

koolkarmakombi ·

Dont use a roach/flea bomb.....

I know of a girl who did this to get rid of a spider in her nice new Peugot, and trashed the interior, it kinda ate the plastic.... very expensive octaped!

kkk

vwombat ·

I've been catching Huntsman spiders with my bare hands for years. They can sense if you're scared, and then they'll nail you with their fangs if you are. If you're not scared, they'll just come up nice and gently to your ear and tell you a couple of jokes.

Huntsman's (Huntsmen?) kill all the cockies around here, so we love them!

Spiders rock anyway! I've usually got a couple of jumping spiders wandering around inside the bay. They keep the mozzies down, and it's fun watching them jump around the dash after a fly, whilst screaming down the road.

Leave the Spider's alone, and they'll generally leave you alone. I have only ever been bitten twice by spiders (both redbacks) and that was because I didn't see them and almost squished them with my hand. The first time, my hand blew up like a footy with frankfurts stuck to it, and the second time it was only a mild rash. Otherwise, I've had a lot of spidery contact.

Peter Leonard ·

mmmmm spiders..
a couple times i've found them before driving off, but WAAAYY too often i've discovered them while merrily motoring along when they suddenly and inexplicably decide to make their presence known. worst car one was (why is it always a frikken huge huntsman? hmm? huh??) when i was driving through busy chatswood, when one crawled out from under the dash, triggering peripheral vision scaredness, then proceeded to creep up the windscreen, across and past the steering wheel and across the driver's side door towards me. after screaming manfully i pulled over and leapt suavely out the passenger door, narrowly avoiding about seven hundred quizzical stares. finding a flicking stick in chatswood was a bugger, especially while trying to keep an eye on it's location.
It can be just as bad on a motorbike, there's nowhere to jump, and you can't drop the bike when one crawls across the tank towards your crotch. eeeeeggghhh. i almost did, but fairing perservation instincts prevailed. 😀 one time, i was just leaving work and spotted one creeping around, which promptly hid somewhere dark inside the guards, so i turned the hose on, i emptied two cans of mortein on and around the bike and basically went nuts at it for about half an hour. much to my coworkers' delight. i then figured i'd got it and rode home. next morning, there were webs across the bars, like it was laughing at me.
an improvised barrage of slow death in the form of a can of rp7 took care of that.
*shudders*😠
once went ballistic when i was watching sitting on the floor watching "arachnophobia", and a huntsman cralwed over my hand. it was tickly. so i bashed it into the carpet with a baseball bat. that was for being a smartass :thumb

frenzix ·

hahaha

HEYYYYY WWOOOMMMBBBAAATTT!

ya hippy :thumb

what jokes do spiders tell?

jenz58 ·

OK 'How many Redbacks does it take to change a light bulb?' ....'When I finish the slab honey! OK?'

Could be one joke

vwombat ·

Well, they're not for sharing Heather.

Suffice to say: they think one handed masturbation looks pretty funny from the ceiling.

frenzix ·

yeah but it feels good

$2.63 homebrand baja ·

dirty daddy longlegs dangles delecately from his web drooling over the disturbing display below :duh

bugeyedbabe ·

frenix...how often do u dangle fromt he ceiling checking otu one handed masturbation??? 😀

hey...u said it felt good, not me

vwombat ·

Heather - I thought you had moved into the big smoke?!? Obviously not, otherwise you would have no time on your hands for such literary pursuits (what with partying all night long in the S+M cellars of the rich and infamous etc). What's happened to the Goddess of Thunder (box)?

So bugeyedbabe - stick a pic into the "photo's of you" thread, and the others wont confuse your identity anymore. You a freakpowergrrrl like Heather? Or just socially inept and in need of internet contact?(also like Heather)
What do you drive?

Methinks that the "Timmeister" will come back as an arachnoid, they say that 8 legged masturbation is a gas!!!

bugeyedbabe ·

hey, i'm an big fat ugly old ogre....and if i were to post me pics it'd scare the young uns

no seriouslly it would..

and i'm on avd cause i have no life....i actually asked if anyone had a life to sell, me, bt the only person offering was boozer...and the others said i shouldn't have his life...especially since he would offer me a refund if it was crap....or i crapped it out due to misuse (like he hasn't done THAT before)

so i guess i am like heather...in need of internet contact

nearly there martin, hit some delays, but in a good way 😉
Thunderbox queen is alive and kicking
Workplace health and safety shut down the local S+M joint due to several hygene issues, so yes I am back to trawlin the net for action

bugeyedbabe ·

and if ya wanna know how desperate i am for contact...look at heatehr post count compared ti mine...

i've been here a year less than heather, and only 100 odd post seperate us....which basically means by tomorrow night i'll probably have 1000...and have caught up...

I am a compulsive postal deleter bugeye, I am an indiangiver when it comes to tasty tidbits of my rather boring yet unstable life. It's a little like tourettes, but with added control issues.... in fact, this post may be gone by tomorrow too! :sandrine

vwombat ·

Oh H, I remember our little tourettes bout a long time ago.

You were such a (SLUT) champion, and I was such an (ANALGAS) loser. Maybe we can do this again some (POOVOMIT) time?

Now it's off to do my weekly planning (YAWN!).

Ah, good ol' Class 1!

And Bugeye's - as for putdowns regarding your physical appearance, you don't even rate until you can plait your nosehair, your skin looks like you use sumpoil for a moisturiser, and your neanderthal brow looks like a ski jump at Calgary (see Byronbus, Frenzix or - ME!).

Thankfully people around here tend to pidgeonhole others based on their personality rather than on the Barbie T&A scale (Tits and Arse). So stop putting yourself down! The universe doesn't like it and may kick your arse if you are not careful.

That's thread hijack #2037. Proudly brought to you by the addled minds of VDMU (Venereal Disease Members Union - oops, wrong club! Ahm, Vee Dub Morons United, that's right!).
