ooooh classy!
what year models yours bugyedbabe? i got a 73 super... but i wants a notch!
bugeyedbabe ·
71 which i'm abotu to part
a 72 i'm gonna do up...bare metal resto i'm thinking...going whole hog on it...to make it the perfect cruiser 4 me and my man
i'm also getting a 70 standard (edith) sent to me for daily driving until elton is ready (72 super)..then i can play in both
ColumBUS ·
oooh classy
so what kinda plans u got for the resto? will it be back to stock or customisation?
bugeyedbabe ·
customisation
bugeyedbabe ·
drop down dvd for back...sunroof in it already...some nice bling bling wheels
new front seats (big comfy ones)
thinking purple pearl with cream pearl flames...but keep changing my mind on colors...
ColumBUS ·
wow!
i had plans for this beetle, until my mother destroyed the 1600, i crashed it and realised there was room for 1 passenger. thus my dreams of notch
bugeyedbabe ·
the damage must have been bad
bugeyedbabe ·
i like supers because u can mod 'em and not have the fanatics up ya 🙁
no one cares if ya mod the supers...😀
ColumBUS ·
it wasnt that the damage was bad, just kinda made me think twice about spending lots of money on her... would rather make her a nice daily driver, sell her to a loving enthusiast and move on... although my beloved president sign shall stay with me forever!
bugeyedbabe ·
did u see the notchon ebay that was in brisbane for $800.00 (starting price)...i think someone said it was owned by someone here...not sure what the end price was...don't think it sold for much above asking price...there were a few on ebay at once
ColumBUS ·
yeah, i try to steer clear of long distance purchases. im in sydney so that was a no. pretty rat too... no carbys!
bugeyedbabe ·
i just got one from sydney...well it's coming...the transport can be done for $380 depot to depot...or $430 door to door.
so nto so bad if the car is real cheap
ColumBUS ·
true... i bought an almost registered hotrod for 300... sold it back as i didnt have any place to put it!
bugeyedbabe ·
the black one right...
i saw it...looked great
barls ·
go the big t4 2L in the bug bugeyedbabe they fit in and have all the power i need to get around
ColumBUS ·
yeah i want a 2l kombi motor... bigger but not too big
whens chaos coming?
barls ·
eventually it still hasnt gone to be sprayed yet but should be on the road by the shootout
bugeyedbabe ·
i wouldn't know even where to begin to start barls...
bugeyedbabe ·
so unless ur sending me a video on how it's done...the motor upgrade man...i'd probably just stuff it up...
this really caters for all beetles but the Germans really like the Supers.
The strut set up is more to their liking
Supers rock by the way
bugeyedbabe ·
pretty good...
i love it when i find info on what i love...vw
BiX ·
yeah superbeetles only has really died over the last few years. It was really big a few years ago, bubt seemed to have a few forum crashes and stuff which really slowed it down.

How long have i been round??
I can remember when SBO was by itself. Then James?? the Shop Talk guy joined and told us about the site he was doing and we should merge.
Then SBO was asked to leave cause of all the band with they were taking
Then the outages started :jesus
Still havent found what happened to the Tech section there.
Might just go and ask now.
Will get back to ya's
bugeyedbabe ·
cool bizarre...thanks...
ColumBUS ·
so how does one go about lowering a strut front superbug? just buy smaller struts or is there more to it?
bugeyedbabe ·
i here there more to it, and that it cost soemthing shocking....get shocking...
The best way really is to put a set of struts in like the ones in the picture
Should have my new ones in for the Nationals. My super will be "hopefully" making a debut new look there
Just lowering the cup stuffs the stock insert
You can go a shorther or softer spring - but handling suffers.
By the time you put new inserts and springs on you may as well have bought the adjustable struts.
And dont let anyone say they are dearer than doing a Standard beetle with an adjustable beam
To get a correct comparrison price up a lowered beam with 2 Berg adjusters (done properly) with extended shock towers that has also been narrowed with new shocks.
THAT is what you are comparing to.
Like a beam - you cannot cut a strut tower. There is a lot of work, especially in a 2 bolt set up to get it to work properly.
Have a look at my car at the Nats KK
ColumBUS ·
not gonna be at the nats bizarrea... dragonskin calls! hiking competition and my 18th birthday = a lot of drunken staggering on dirt roads!
bugeyedbabe ·
looks good bizarre
bugeyedbabe ·
i thought it cost heaps and wa almost impossible to get right...but now..
maybe i will lower elton
ColumBUS ·
so how much are we looking at to get it done properly? be honest
bugeyedbabe ·
i have a standard coming, and was thinking of lowering it, but now might do both
Bizarre ·
Richard at V force does them for $1000 + you old tubes.
Give him a call and get it correct.
It all depends what springs etc you get.
I am getting 135lb springs
Dieter is running 275 with helper springs = more $$$
Compare that to a dual Berg style lowered beam that is also narrowed with extended shock towers and new shock
think you will be surprised
BiX ·
I have lowred mine 30mm. cost 450 for new koni front shocks, plus 200 for new lower and stiffer front springs. not quiet as much as the v force struts but works very well. and haven't had any issue even racing on lumpy khancrosses.
Bizarre ·
Bix
are yours a narrowed spring??
The V Force ones are 65mm, enabling a wider wheel to go on.
Snotty, Dieter's 1302, is in the V Force add in VMA a couple of issues ago with 18" 911 wheels under stock guards
the smaller spring enables wheels with Porche off set to fit and you can then run 6"- 8"under stock guards without it rubbing the spring.
BiX ·
yes that is the only issue. I run 15 inch x 6 inch rims with 195/60 tires with no problems.
But if you want a cheaper option that the full strut version and will still be running 15inch wheels its an alternative.
If I was building a new gl car and went for larger than 15 inch wheels i woudl get the struts. but as i was a student at the time, paying 200 for a set of new springs was the better option and allowed more :beer
