I need to know (roughly) how much bigger the interior of a Type 3 is in comparison to a Beetle.
As most know I bought #1 son a beetle, but the lanky little prick don't fit. Or rather HE does, but no one else will. The back seat becomes null & void.
Are Type 3's any bigger or am I looking at another Kombi??

Spook yeah i had a type 3 Wagon for both sons who are taller than me. the younger in about 6'4" and he had no problems with his mate in the back seat who were of simialr height
hows the 64 wheeler going toot toot !!!!

Hey spook...can't give you dimension but i have one of each and the type 3 is like driving a caddy compared to the beetle. Although I've never sat in the back seat.

i'v learny to sit with the beetle seat forward.. my left leg always on an angle.. but i havw no clutch pedal, so i guess thats why🙂 im 6'-
i just find bumps are worse with people in the back🙂

stick the friends on the roof racks....lol
sorry i'm not help...we're all short here

Have to keep my eye out for one then.
As it stands he wanted a Type 3 wagon, so it won't upset him too much.
Just hold on to the beetle for #2 son. He's short & fat like his old man, unless of course he gains a foot & a half at puberty like his brother.
But then I still got two others after that.
Trains are going good Dave.
I could have actually dropped out for a beer Friday night (finished about 5:30) but, as you could appreciate, a good day for me is 14 hours from leaving home to getting back, so all I want to do is head home.
Turns out I do have the weekend of the nationals off so we'll see what happens there. I think my weekend is already planned for me.

I am 6 foot 4 and have more room in my beetle than I do in my Commodore - head room anyway, I put up with the leg room issue. I will admit that room is at a premium in our beetle but our problem is more width across the car than anything else. We don't do long trips with the four of us in the car but it isn't too bad anyway.

i have the same problemo, im 6'3 and theres no room i nthe back seat for anyone. its a two seater car. thus my want for a notch!
Octa ·
I am 6'1 and drive a late notch. My seat is all the way to the last sliding notch and reclined the whole way (I am using lowbacks). It is a comfortable position but I could go a bit further back if I could. I have to admit that there is not much space left behind my seat, for children maybe, but for adults I have to move my seat forward and then I feel cramped while driving.
ColumBUS ·
dont put me off now octa! might have to go for a kombi instead...
Octa ·
Sorry. Not my intention. However, the facts sometimes hurt. Yet, IMHO notches and type3s are way cool, nobody should lack an excuse to get one. 😎

Spook you have u2u . I have a type 3 wagon for sale,
jo_tas ·
I'm fairly sure that there's less room in the back of a notch than in other Type 3's...
penguin ·
Doesn't DaveB have a square for sale as well?
maybe you could 'try' your son out in it?

Spook
U dont NEED that
U need to come to the VW Nats .....

Measured him up today. 177cm. Don't know what that is in the old scale, but I know 6' is 183, so he's getting there.
He's only 15 so he hasn't finished yet.

You just can't beat a kombi for room.......
Buy him a kombi. You know you want to.
BenettonVW ·
I'm 6'7", so that possibly tops the scale. You know what I drive, and I have noticed the difference bigtime in my previous ride..
Type 3 for sure man.
ColumBUS ·
ok you win... still on the notch trail!

Your preaching to a disciple brother. I already got 2 kombi's.
This may be why the boys want something different. The kombi is the old man's ride.😉
