I pity everyone doing uni, esp if you are unfortunate enough to be doing so at wollongong. I just got this email...
Dear Christopher,
I am referring to correspondence sent to you on 25 November 2004 in which your appeal to graduate was denied.
I am pleased to advise that your appeal has been reconsidered and you will now be allowed to graduate in July 2005. To action this you will need to submit a new application to Academic Registrar Division to graduate in July 2005.
At the present time you are enrolled in CSCI311. You may wish to withdraw from the subject. You will need to do this before 31st March 2005 to avoid a HECS liability.
Please accept our apology for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Yours Sincerely
Any inconvenience!!!!!!! Shit no, just had to withdraw my applications for jobs, missed having graduation with my mates, missed having a grad party, just wasted 6 months of my life... but noooo, no inconvenience at all.
At least I save $600 in hecs and another 4 months of uni. Pricks.

Once my Uni tried to kick me out saying that I had failed too many subjects. Afetr getting really stressed and worked up about it and having to chase them down about it they did the same "we are sorry for any inconvenience caused" bs letter about 2 months later. Meanwhile my enrolement lapsed. I ended up changing courses. Bureaucracy for you...

Yeah I have to see if I can get my union/compulsory fees back. Have lsot money on the yextbook. Wouldnt like my chances. Sueing them wont work, because they could afford a much better lawyer than me.
I figure its possible they could have cost me up to $40000. If I had of got in on a 2005 graduate intake, and if I dont get one until 2006, well, somewhere between 30 and 40K is goooone never to be seen.
The best advice to uni students I can give is to triple check everything, even things that seem obvious. Beware of admin. Save every single email you get. Wollongong Uni has supposedly got a good reputation and wins awards for teaching. There must be a lot of money change hands because I dont know that many people but everyone has horror stories.
The thing that pisses me off most, the rest of it doesnt really matter strangely enough, but what pisses me off is that I didnt get to walk out of the last exam with my mates woohooing finished uni, lets go party. They robbed me of that. Having the celebration in March just feels empty, so wont be bothering. I spent the whole of September and October arguing that what they were calling my 'interpretation' was nothing but me reading what was black and white. What was written wasnt what they intended, but after 5 years of studying, that wasnt my fault. I guess that when they sat down and tried to rewrite the rules so the 'misinterpretation' couldnt happen again, they realised I was right.

I got a PC in a core subject. PC for the uninitiated is pass conceded. They give you the credit points for that subject, but it cant be used as a pre requisite for any further subjects. I think you are allowed 3 or 4 over the course of the degree (in my case at least). Well it seems the rule they wanted was that you cant have any PC's in a final year subject. Unfortunately the rules were in 1 1a) 1b) kind a of list. And one of these subpoints which I attributed to be in reference to the main point (it wasnt stated otherwise) actually apllied to a different subpoint. There was no way of knowing that was the intended rule, unless you wrote the rule. Unfortunately I was appealing to those who wrote the rules.
My 2 months of telling them I had done all the required core subjects, 3 more non core subjects than I needed to do, at high credit average was not enough. All they were interested in was the 5 marks i missed in the PC subject. If I had of known what they wanted the rule to be, then I could have taken an extra subject and made up for it sometime last year.
When I exhausted all avenues of appeal I gave up and resigned to doing another subject this year. Why they went back 6 months later and changed their minds I will never never know. I dont care, I'm just glad I am out of the system.
What does a comsci student do with his hard won degree? I have a 2nd interview on tuesday to become a Bunnings floor walker. My second most ultimate dream job... after check out chick at supercheap auto (didnt get that one, they said I was over qualified)
