just going through a few plate options, and checking whats available and mot here in S.A.
they're going on my '54 beetle which is gonna be kinda a Cal look mixed with a bit of Rat look.
I'm gonna get a custom plate, which means any combo of numbers and letters up to 7 characters
so far I like:
CLUNKER. (cos of the clunker doors, and it looks like an old clunker)
VOLKSY
VW54
OVAL54
54OVAL
BUG
V DUB
VDUB 54
CAL BUG
RAT BUG
CAL RAT
OLD BUG
any other suggestions?

how do you check if they're available? is there a website or do you call them up? wanna see if "BORSCH" is free. can you have umlauts on custom plates?

Doesn't it depend on what state you are in as to how to check? I think in QLD its soemthign like ppq.com.au
I don't think they do Aussie plates with umlauts, but you gould just paint them on after.
There's a place on eBay you can get german plates made, and you can get umlauts done.
I got the plates for my V6 kombi done in German style.

find something flexible, ie. Volksy ? cause if someday you change your mind or plan, then the plate means nothing after. I mean the plates with Cal or Rat ... but they do look cool! or get another plate if u change your mind later on! :thumb

that's why I was thinking Clunker.
It'll always be an old clunker.
and it's got clunker doors.
plus the added sting of getting beaten off the lights by a car that openly admits it's a clunker.
