Engine and Chassis Number Ref Please!

I know its been on here heaps of times, but I can't find it now!

Can someone please direct me to the reference pages for chassis and engine numbers (beetle), I am looking at a buggy and want to see what I may end up buying.

Also, we think the chassis number is wrong, anyone good with deciphering possible numbers?

If its a Buggy It could be anything.

Whats the chassis number ???

Also Rob & Bobs shade tree mechanics
have a good section for this....

Only problem with most of these, is that they are primarily for German made Beetles.....
Also Volkswagenwerk also did some odd things during production of the Beetle.....

Thanks to all, I did some research and have worked out that the buggy I am looking at has a '61 chassis with an early 1600 engine. Cool!
