Ok heres the update.
As some of you are aware we are in the process of setting up a club dedicated to the Kombi whether it be Split, Bay, T25, T4, T5, etc
Having spoken to a few people around Aus it seems it is possible to make this Australia wide having branches in or near every region.
This is intended as being very laid back, in true kombi fashion. news letters, drive outs drive ins and drive throughs, camp outs, tours, help from other type 2 fanatics, meets etc. eventually even 'buses with attitude' style of race meets
This will be run on similar lines as the Split Screen Van Club in the UK, I have been in contact with them and they have offered advice.
Hopefully we will be complementing existing clubs and increasing numbers at events
We will never shut out other VeeDubs, they are more than welcome to participate
If this takes off, no matter where you go in Aus, you will meet other members.
Cheers
Roy

BenettonVW ·
What happened to Bay Splitty Rollers? Is that name still up for grabs for others then?
kombibob ·
cool roy sign me in
ClassicVW(pacific) ·
It was a name you either loved or hated, I had mixed response and it has to be loved by everyone.
General feedback was that a club called Bay Splitty Rollers could not be taken seriously .
BenettonVW ·
Oh yeah? Shit I love it. Well I'm sure someone will grab it at some stage..
ClassicVW(pacific) ·
Bob
I will need a great deal of help along the line, do I have a volunteer?
It seems everyone has been waiting for a kombi club, I dont want to spark up a beetle v's Kombi debate coz we are all brothers and sisters below the skin !!

ClassicVW(pacific) ·
mate for me it conjures up shocking images of Scottish teenagers prancing about with bad dress taste, mimeing to sugar baby love and shang a lang
frog ·
Why can't we be the Australian division of the splitscreen van club?
ClassicVW(pacific) ·
what about the bays etc, but inspired by SSVC
KombiBetty ·
Great how do we sign up? :bounce
ClassicVW(pacific) ·
The plan is to keep it seperate from my business ClassicVW(pacific), although we will be a sponsor of the Club we will be looking for other sponsors Nationwide, this is a non profit making Club.
The SSVC has been running for well over 20 years, I hope this may be the start of something that will last just as long
I will set up a seperate E-mail address for anyone interested, to register.
As I say any help will be greatly appreciated

...Im with the ground swell for 'Bay Splitty Rollers'!! I think its a classic name!! :thumb:thumb:thumb
Lifes already too bloody serious... :duh
57kombi ·
I aint wearing tartan for no body.
VWENVY ·
Im with you an the tartan!
What about brill creamed hair, a white bonds shirt and a leather jacket thats too small!?
~air fooled~ ·
cmon bay splitty rollers, it dont mean tartan, just a plain smart play on words...... and it just rolls of the tounge dont it!
VWENVY ·
We should start a poll for a name!! Each name has to be seconded for a tally to start! Names of members will likely need to be recorded!
:vader:repuke:vader:puke:duh
#1 Bay Splitty Rollers - 3 at least (BennetonVW; airfooled; VWENVY) - I missed earlier posting!
...other options please!?
As for Scottish teenagers...im leaving that the hell alone!
57kombi ·
A poll has already been done and bay splitty rollers was rejected, most people when hearing this name would not have a clue that it was a club for VW van owners
I think it might just end up being.
"Kombi Van Club Australia"
Plain and simple and straight to the point, will not upset anyone and says what it is.
Easy done.
Cheers
Dave
ClassicVW(pacific) ·
Suggestions would be looked at, we had a few last time but we are looking at getting this up and running.
I personally like the name 'Buses with attitude' but whether it could be used as a club name I dont know??
~air fooled~ ·
i thought bay splitty rollers was flyin ahead in the preferance with just a few detractors! am i wrong!?
ClassicVW(pacific) ·
I also asked non aussieveedubbers to comment as well and it was a resounding thumbs down.
65busser ·
If you were around when the Bay City Rollers were around, you'd shy off the name too. As clever as it is, it's kinda like associating yourself with the Wiggles. (Love their work - mind you).
Serious cheese.
mattie ·
i like australian type 2 owners club
but oh well ill own a bus one day!
frog ·
Like the idea of a transporter only website.
t2 ·
dont like bay splitty rollers
buses with attitude gets my vote
but i like busaholics more

sneak_e ·
window lickers! - classic 🙂 LOL
kombi van club aust - anal
bay splitty rollers - very clever
I don't own a bus so it really shouldn't matter what I, or any others, think of the names though 🙂 Go with a club name that you'll enjoy having as a sticker on your ride. I always thought that the kombi attitude was laid back and cruisy - which is why i like the No H20 'collective' over here in Perth, no 'rules' or regulations, just a bunch of cool vw owners it seems - good on em 🙂
65busser ·
Doesn't matter what it's called....lets just do it.
Good on you Roy. You've started something a lot of us will be happy to be a part of.
You've established that there is enough interest.
I'll put my hand up to assist in Victoria if necessary.
A name will come.

that cracks me up, the wiggles kombi club, hahaha.
and the wiggles jig could be signature dance.
Thanks for the offer Brad and your comments. we have received so many positive comments.
57kombi ·
As you can see the majority of actual bus owners agree that Bay spliity rollers would not suit the image of a bus club.
Also I do agree that anyone who was around when the rollers where in the charts would never pick that name.
We will get a cool name eventually.
Cheers

Dave
do you think it is a plot by Beetle owners to make us look daft !!!!
ClassicVW(pacific) ·
Bay Splitty Rollers was actually quite brilliant. But do you think the split screen van club would be still running after 20 years if it had the name of a teeny pop band. But they were long before my time, I cant remember them !!!!

I got a bit off the track there.
Name is important at this stage as it is hard to be in something with no name.
Will this be a fullon club or a collective or association, society, organisation or group.....sorry to get techo on you but if we know what exact description it is a start.
eg-Aust bla bla collective.
Aust bla bla club
Bla bla club of Aust.
Do you think it should be a formalish name? I recon it needs Aust in it somewhere, maybe transporter as it describes all year models and then some thing else less formal.
Yes Roy I am sobering up now.
matt_c ·
i love the idea and have no contribution to the name, although what if you dont own a "Kombi van" but a "kombi Ute".
It`s just a small piont but there`s a few of us.
good on ya roy, let me know if there`s anything i can do from the sunny coast.
t2 ·
aus wide vw bus hooligans
65busser ·
How 'bout, starting now, anyone with a type2 who wants to be associated, register their vehicle/s by posting the details here e.g. 1965 11 window van, colours, etc etc.......and.....with every registration you have a crack at naming the club.
Which ever name appears the most is it.
Then if you don't like the name, you de register and start your own splinter group using the name you like.
Then we can get on with selecting a secret hand shake.
This is really coming together.
77bay ·

What about "SPLITBAY TRANSPORTERS"? Does that include everyone and not make one group an outcast? You could always throw the club/group/Australia on the end if needed.:thumb

kombi van, ute, microbus samba clubof australia incorporated
vwtyp2 ·
you're right,
"kombi van" excludes single cabs and double cabs.
But "transporter" excludes microbus deluxes, caravelles, and the like.
I'm in favour of keeping it simple and all inclusive, and just having it as Australian Volkswagen Type 2 blah blah, or Volkswagen type 2 blah blah of Australia.
matt_c ·
how about the "we couldn`t think of a name club" or "?" or the "we thought we were indecisive but now we`re not so sure" vw club
57kombi ·
The problem is the usual, cant please all of the people all of the time, one.
If it was called VW Transporters club, that would exclude some and also a lot of owners dont visit this site or are not into the scene and might not realise what there buses are really called, just might think it is a kombi.
But then if you call it the VW kombi club, some of the purists might say but mine is a single cab or a microbus, see what I mean.
I think just a simple one (like myself)
Australian Kombi Club.
But then there might be a problem with using the word Australian, I know companies have to apply to the government to be able to use Australian. And if you use Volks Wagen, then Vw/Seat might have a go?
See its getting harder to get a name.
How about.
Aussie Kombi Club.
Cheers
Dave
How about

how about "vw transporter (??????????) australia"

traumin ·
Hey what about Kombi's of Oz.Then underneath the location ie;sth east Qld.That is short and sweet! Don't know about the rest of you but we don't refer to our kombi as kombi van.Kombi Van Club sounds more American than Aussie. Well Roy,what do ya reckon mate!
ClassicVW(pacific) ·
It seems there is plenty of support for a National Kombi club no matter what the name.
Like Dave said the name will only suit some of the people some of the time but it has to be agreeable with everyone involved at present and in the future, coz I dont want to be changing it in 20 years
So what I propose is that as from tonight the "club" is up and running as something just plain and simple and to the point, nothing complicated.
KOMBI CLUB
This way it can be added to on stickers, T shirts, promos etc
ie.
Kombi Club - S E Qld
Kombi Club - Australia,
Kombi Club - Window lickers
Kombi Club - Buses with attitude
Thanks to Klub VW for the offer of help too, thanks.
I would like to get started so your honest opinions asap

frog ·
The other way around like.....
Club Kombi.
Just to be a pain in the arse.
byronbus ·
Roy, why start a new club when one already exists?
ClassicVW(pacific) ·
Why not???
It dosen't mean we are in competition or anything, but until you mentioned it I knew nothing about any other club.
Anything is worth a go if it encourages more VW to the road
Why did I start a VW business when there are already shops out there, guess it was to offer more choice.
Why is there more than one sydney VW club?
All of the wheels are ready to start rolling, shall I forget about it and walk away or carry on??
[Edited on 28/3/2005 by ClassicVW(pacific)]
byronbus ·
carry on, just wondering, we'll have to do some runs soon...you coming to the berry show in may?
ClassicVW(pacific) ·
All depends whats happening locally, I try and support local runs first, Klub VW have a run to Brissie early May and I think there is something happening late May.
When is it and you might have to help me here, where is Berry??
Are you in to the Dubfest this year
byronbus ·
Berry is on the NSW southcoast, 1st of May, Klubfest is the 15th may...
Dubfest, I would have been involved but the dates clashed, I was really clear that i wouldnt be there when the dates were set...saw pics, Frenzix said it was the best show he'd been to, he would be keen to organise it
ClassicVW(pacific) ·

Kombi club S.A and so on

ClassicVW(pacific) ·
Ok Dave to make it easier for you.
Having discussed the name with the many non-AVD members and judging by feedback the guys and gals here, the name shall be ......
Kombi Van Club - Australia
Mainly coz its short and simple, everyone knows what a kombi is and the 'Van' just fills in a space. The name pretty much encompasses any model and year
We will be running in the true spirit of the Kombi, nice and relaxed, freindly and open to all.
The club will be for anyone with a passion for kombis whether you have one on the road, in pieces or only as a pipedream.
Help from other members will be a great benefit and we are already looking at other benefits as members.
As already mentioned we intend to make this Australia wide, definately not to poach members from other clubs, but to increase attendance and show that VW's are here to stay.
Stickers are already in the pipeline and we are looking for someone to design a few T-shirts.
Anyone wanting to register or offer help in your area please drop us a line at
nearly forgot,
We will be starting work on the 1st newsletter, so we need your stories, photos, restoration pics, holiday stories, your first VW, anything that might be of interest.
Believe me no matter how insignificant you think your story is it may be inspiration to someone out there.
For sale/wanted sections
Business section
Club sections- other club meets and venues
Diary dates
Also if you know a company in your area that would like to offer sponsorship of the club please mention it to them.
Fossil ·
:bounce Well done Roy - support is there and I'll sign up as a member of the Kombi Van Club - Australia :beer

2006 is going to be another Valla year isn't it? If so that would be a good opportunity to party. Not that there is any extra need for party spirit there.
As for the name I think if the "Van" bit was dropped every one would fit under that umbrella. I read people calling their twincabs and SCc buses regularly. It is the front of the bus that gets instant recognition imho.

I think you have just produced our first logo.
Looks great.
Ay Roy.
Just need the forum address and were off and running.
This has the potential to be a great national club.
Got the missus looking into the legals(shes a barrister so we will get it right and not have to rely on the usual bar room/thinks hes a lawyer/ bullshit)
I think this is a really great idea, I am in a club at the moment and will stay in it, but most clubs and shows are really beetle based, O.K. I understand that there are more beetles than buses but why should we have to put up with being second best?
In our club I believe that there is only one other split on the road but I havent seen that for about 2 years, I see more splits and nice bays on the road and they are not members of the clubs,
This way I can give them a flyer/put it under there wiper, and hopefully get more people interested in joining a club.
The missus told me she saw 2 splits down at Glenelg on the weekend and no one has seen then at the clubs or shows.
At the last show in March, there were 4 splits and only mine is in a club, we might be able to get loads to join.
Just ramlbing now as " I'm excited".
Cheers
Dave

Well, my brothers and sisters of the hood
this has blown me away, come back after a day and the feedback is great .
All these ideas are being put into the hat and we will start putting ideas to the members so far
Leaflets/fliers are being designed now, we use a Printer locally who is pretty reasonable.
I will get a few printed off and send them out to those w=ho wish to distribute a few, please let me know.
Fossil ·
Roy - if you can get the leaflets in pdf or whatever (I can do some printing on the Coy's Colour LaserJet) I'm happy to distribute or e-mail them out to AVD members if I get e-mail addresses.
Some on here don't give an e-mail address.

7 pages and many many viewings, probably people just checking and rechecking if there are any events yet,at all, ever.
I know I've lost count of how many times I have checked this thread for events
Will we form a collective of kombie customers or is there more to it?
why dont we/you/us make the first outing a joint event with Klub VW on Sunday April 10?
Klub VW Goldcoast hereby cordially invite the type 2 collective, {insert final name here :thumb } to join us, along with some members of the Bad little buggers and Gold Coast Dub Club,
We will be Meeting at 5 PM on Sunday Afternoon on the service road out front of Movieworld.
We can take a run out to Numinbah Natural Arch, perhaps Bring a bite to eat or there are BBQs there if anyone wants to have a cook up.
As soon as its Dark enough, we can go for a bushwalk to see the Glow worms,
Bring a torch,
Bring ya Kids,
Bring a sense of adventure, and maybe some insect repellant.
And have good twilight get together with ya friends.
or just sit and wait for the official stickers.

Everyone who has shown interest could you please E-mail your detaials to
Hey Tony I did call you a while back and told you of my intentions, that is not to draw attention away from any other club, but to increase numbers at events and maybe encourage a few more sole travellers to join up to clubs whatever thier orientation.
Mate I didnt want to just rush in with a meeting without having some sort of plan and judging by the feedback not just from AVD members, a Kombi club has been a long time coming.
This must be good for the Volkswagen scene in general.
See you on Sunday.
ClassicVW(pacific) ·
Will we form a collective of kombie customers or is there more to it?
Tony
I am hurt, anybody who knows me or who has dealt with me knows that this is not a business venture, nor am I into Volkswagens to make heaps of money.
The idea was born from discussions with many kombi owners, I am not alienating other groups or putting kombi owners on a podium.
Yes ClassicVW(pacific) are if you like the only sponsors of the Club at the moment, by this I mean that we will pay for the setting up costs, time in setting up, sticker design, first newsletter, promotion etc.
But I have already talked to a couple of National companies and local to the Gold Coast who are willing to offer sponsorship.
I love driving my kombis and have travelled many k's on my own and supported many events this past 6 months with sponsorship and attendance.
I want to see a national network of the Kombi club set up on the same principlals as the SSVC.
I will do the hard yards, there are more VW drivers out there than just AVD members.
I am not sat on my arse either waiting for stickers, once leaflets have been produced we can get the word out there and when we do meet up we have something to hand out and publicise.
Christ don't be such a party pooper !!

Roy, It would be a great idea as you mentioned to do the Nimbin Kombi convoy to open the Mardi gras.
That would be the perfect place to start off.
I went in the bug last year & had a ball, (as the split wasn't started on then).
There is a contingment meeting in Byron Bay that joins the others at Lismore at the starting point.
I am chasing up the info now on times to meet at Byron so I will let you know....
Sounds the the perfect start to the kombi club....

Sure, I'm part of two clubs, was three.
I am more than happy to support Roys venture,
I didn't mean to offend you Roy, I appolagise.
but you cant complain that there are not enough events if you dont come to the ones that are organised by the existing local clubs, then start a new collective of enthusiasts, collect all their info to add to a database of entusiasts/potential customers without so much as a get together or event or anything more than stickers, {purchasable from you I expect} in the months since this post began without expecting the odd raised eyebrow.
I'm real keen to be part of what you are doing, as I have two Splittys, and I am keen to support your importing VW parts too, but I am beginning to wonder, exactly what you ARE doing, I am sorry if it comes across as offensive.
What do collective members do? apart from buy stickers and parts, or am I missing the point?
Hopefully we will see you on Sunday,

Tony
After a nights sleep I can not ignore your comments how ever much I try.
1.Any club merchandise which is purchaseable from the Club (not from me as you suspect) will be for the benefit of the Club not any other enterprise.
2. I have leaflets relating to ClassicVW(pacific) if this was merely to generate more business I would continue distributing those only.
3. The 'future' members that have expressed interest are already on 'my database' both avd members and others
4. If you did not mean to offend, then maybe you could call me next time to discuss the matter before making them for public view
5. This post was started on 22/3/05 not months ago
6. Kombi owners as with any VW driver has the right to buy from where ever they want after all Kombi drivers are highly intelligent people and can ultimately make thier own decisions
7. If business was the ultimate reward, why dont we start a VW Club for all Volkswagens after all I sell parts for beetle, type 3's KG's
8. Like I said we have supported local events, was you at Dubfest last year? was you at Action Day, was you at Cleveland, what about dubs by the pub, cant remember seeing you.
Lastly if you want to bag me or my business or question my intentions, start another post specially for the subject a it is not fair on the people who have shown interest in the subject of a Kombi Club
Sorry to all the people who have shown genuine interest, Tony's remarks could not be un-answered

I was going to comment but then I thought is it worth it.
Others on here have already made fools of themselves.
But I will say this,
There seems that there is a lot who want this club and only 1 or 2 that seem threatened by it.
So who cares what the minority think.
Long live the Kombi Club.

Enough of the bullshit, lets get on with the subject in hand.

Byron Bay, Cleveland area, Sunshine coast any ideas on venues?
Now all though it will be a Kombi Club outing anyone is welcome to come along and join in. Whether it be for a day or the weekend.

Hi dudes, A bus club or register is a great idea...we over here in the West tried it as a slplinter off NoH2o a few years back..@ that stage we had 30 splits @ our informal gathering (annual Kite festival show, Freo).
I called it Old Speed Bus registery.
The reason i tried this is because although we had this many busses, i knew of so many more, some show quality, that had never been seen by our members..some of these dudes parked there busses a block away and walk to see our crusties on display??
My contribution to the name would be not to follow SSVC as kombis are not vans, THEY ARE BUSSES..the original. Good luck and let Humpty know (NoH2o)when you have more info, we`ll try to get a registry over here again..cheers Kieran

SSVC in the UK started in April 1982 by Jennifer Pedler, a year later there was 182 vans on thier registerand the first newsletter was sent out from the 5 founding members.
22 years later they are going strong with over 1000 members.
What we are trying to do is something similar in Aus, but for all kombis 1954-2005, campers, buses, vans, utes.
I cant see why we cant top 1000 members in 2 years and a National rally like Vanfest!!!!
