High guys, thinking of running 195x60 faulkans on my lowered 72 square with empi 8's what do people think???
Really dont want rubbing.
Has anyone else run a similar setup?

What width are the empi's?

i had 195 front 205 rears for a while, rears were fine but the fronts rubbed on lock. it still rubs on lock with 165's anyway. thats with 5.5 and 6 "rims

8s are 5.5in good luck wheel clearence can be a bitch on type 3s yours being IRS may not have probs but early cars..........can make u:cry
My set up is (f) 135x15 (r) 165x15 on empi 5s(5.5) , being a 63 has thinner drums than 64on so i did not have to shorten my rear axels to fit wheels

Yep, I have 195's all round on 6' rims, I dont think I will be able to lower it much at all.
Looks like I will need to get thinner tyres at the very least.

sure put big ass tyres on yo car like that and u aint got much hope of lowering it, clearence, clearence, clearence
I have mounted the following wheel/tire combos successfully on type 3s. by Brian Fye
Mahle 4 lug G/B: 195/60/15 front, 195/70/15 rear--required 3/8 spacers
Centerline: 145R15 front, 185/65 rear
EMPI 8 spoke: 145R15 front, 165R15 rear--barely tucked
Eagle centerline knock offs: 195/60/15 front, 195/70/15 rear
Original Rivieras: 195/60/15 front and rear
Current Rivieras w/ flat panel on each spoke: 145R15 front, 165R15 rear--again, barely fit.
2.0 Fuchs: 195/50-15. Petri 1971 Notch

well it sounds like the 195X60 faulkans might be a tad big.
The empi 8's are 15X5.5
So what size is ideal, remebering it has been lowered?

I have tried falkens and also from a poerformance point of veiw found them very bad. they have an inital soft layer of rubber, which gives great grip but once 3/4 warn they seem to get very hard and loose grip.
I have run this with a set of 185/65r15 on the beetle in the 326 pattern. and have just thrown out a set of 195/60 and 205/60 st115 after only being 2/3 warn as they were loosing alot of grip.
I now have been running bridgestone GIII and found them very good.

Okay i've been asking alot of questions on this and this is what i've been told from folk far and wide!
On a lowered ( 1 at back , 2/3 up front) 72 square you won't get away with much more than a 155/165 tyre on the rear using brm's and sitting nice and low. Dont know if the offset etc is the same as yours but sure it's not far off mine.
Looks like either a 165 rear 145 front (very traditional) or possibly the lo pro option of smart car tyres. 175/55 , 145/60 and another i cant remember. There are 3 available and they are good all round tyres though do look small.
Not alot of choices but if the cars a cruiser , 1600cc's wont punish the skinny tyres and at least you can tuck them up in the arches.
Personally i'll go the 165/145 route.
Good luck
Dan😉

Hey octa ,

mmmm, hi John I will soon be going thru a similar dilemma with my early fasty as I am also looking to fit empi8s.
I know this sounds stupid but I am not sure if my fasty is lowered or not, so I am thinking 195/60's if not lowered and 195/45's if it is lowered.
So I think for u 195/60's are going to rub if it is already lowered.

Pat your car is not lowerd (sasha never let me) it had very large and very wide Porsche wheels so ,no.
sounds like you will be using narrowed rear axels to fit your wheels.
what stud pattern did u deciede on paddo 4 or origonal 5 stud?
empi
Paddo ·
Hey Ads,
Me thinking 4 stud cuz i like the empi 8's may mean some tinkering, but thats cool.
