Would you pay $80 to attend a vw w'end/gathering /party /cruises out etc etc, accomadation ( bring your combi , tent , etc) on a coastal site north of sydney. Forget the in's and out's , would you? A simple yes or no. Bug Jam Ozzy style?????

I just gotta wonder where all the profits go.

Why can I go to a hot rod weekender where you get two people and a car in, get fed most your meals, have bands (ones you usually have to pay to see), free booze, a t-shirt, good quality trophies for the winners, fantastic door prizes (300 piece tool kit / welder) for $30 when it cost $20 to get two spectators into a VW show with none of the above?

buzzbug 路

How do the numbers compare in relation to the vw to hot rod show attendance and entrants matt?
Just thinking that HR shows may attract more poeple than what a vw show might.
So there for more people through the gate the more money to go towards the event and give aways.
Do HR shows have outside catering or do they do it themselves, they may make extra money for the show that way.

these Q's are all out of quriosity and in no way being sarcastic/nit picking/in your face or any thing of that nature.

Most have one club prepare each meal for a weekender. The food comes out of sponsorships. The turn up for a weekender that cost two of us $30 (both, not each) and supllied all meals except saturday night, bands on friday and saturday, t-shirt, free booze on friday night had about 170 cars / about 400 people (kids free).

The difference is they only want to cover the cost and make a small profit to enable starting on the next years show. What gets made goes back to the people paying.

Even most one day shows, entry for cars is never more than $10-20 and spectators get in for a gold coin.

byronbus 路

A show like that matt would need to be run by a few different clubs...

HotRodMatt 路

byronbus wrote:A show like that matt would need to be run by a few different clubs...
Hell, that would sound like a "nationals" wouldn't it?

Seriously, the show above was run by one mob. All the clubs that had members attending pitch in as they do at most shows. Even the lone wolves get in and make it an event for everybody.

It wouldn't be too hard for a few people to get together, work out the bones for this kinda show for VWs and start getting others interested enough to help out. We are a big scene. When our minds are on having a good time and giving people what they want for a reasonable price it would all work out. Some clubs unfortunately wouldn't be interested - their loss.

This how we run our show,
We cover costs then donate the rest to our selected charity.

Lee.

byronbus 路

Do all shows donate the profit to charity?
I went to a show recently that must have made a substantial profit...

Thumbs up!

Some shows talk about their gift to charity but only give a portion. There's nothing wrong with a club/organisation making a profit but gouging entrants and spectators for little value for money is wrong.

I personally give most support to those shows who give back to the people who come through the gates.

Our show (balst from the past) is held in a pub carpark in berry,
We ask for $10 per car to enter, last year we gave each entrant a small plaque that was engraved with the show and year.
We will be doing the same this year.
What we have after cost are covered goes straight to the Shoalhaven cancer bus, which transports cancer patients to appointments in sydney and so on.

Lee, do we have to pre-register?

buzzbug 路

nope,
just show up on the day,
it is on the 1st of may at the great southern hotel in Berry,
tell the other half that the berry markets are on and plenty of shopping in town also.

Have to say i didnt really think about profit

I use the terms "shows" and "events" but this is not really what i mean or see the whole idea and style of such thing happening.

To make this plain from the start this would be welcome for all to attend but NOT what i'd call a family , VW purist ,w'end away , if you get my drift? In other words probably best to leave the oldies and kids at home and if your offended by loud , low vw's , please stay away !

See it being a relaxed gathering , few things planned , DJ Sat night , by the ocean etc. If funds allowed yea get some t-shirts stickers etc done but no biggie. More of a vw geta- away , ideal for couples and drunks!

Want to make it as simple as possible really , take over part of a trailer park/camping site or similar , slightly remote so we can make some noise .Bring what you need ( Booze , Food etc), put up a tent or have a simple chalet or something. Place would need to be big l , area for swaps /meeting etc , aswell as having all facilties and a room for a DJ. This is an idea i have thought about and discussed alot and even it if boils down to just being able to get a killer rate on a place for w'end and 10-15 folk turn up , it would be a start. Alot easier that way also , no money being changed hands and all you'd have to do is get a general number of those interested to see what rates they could offer against the number of those definaites. Sounds too easy to me!

I know i bang on about the pommy / euro shows but seriously , even the small ones , if you had those here , that amount of interest , with our brilliant beaches and good weather it would be truely awesome.

Out of season these places are screaming for business and you get very cheap w'end deals normally around the $80 mark. Thats why i asked about $80 for a w'end to see what the interest is so i can look into this. Personally $80 plus food , drink , petrol and anything else your up to is not a very expensive w'end at all. Allows for those further away the chance to attend , Oildrippers maybe????I'd be looking at a 1 and 2 night rate , i'd be there a Friday and Saturday night and make a proper w'end away myself.

I'm going to see what happens with this post but urge folk to reply . Dont mind comments etc makes it interesting but there are certain key things about this that i want to stick to. Keeping it really simple , the plan is that there is no plan for the w'end. You'd be parked up in the middle of a shit load of vw's , few things going on , , folk mouching about , near a beach , going for a cruise and having a good Sat night with a Sunday to recover.
No clubs involved though more than welcome , no money changing hands and no profits to worry about. Only money worry is raising the DJ costs and possibly for a nice t shirt and stickers or whatever. Comes to it i'll fund it myself! Bring what you need so no need to worry about catering etc.

As i said "too easy" ! Let me know folks

Good luck with the organising, it sounds really good. I vote yes

ratty 63 路

Yep

Sounds like fun - anything can be organised if you are motivated enough....

As far as the profits/donations argument is concerned - its up to the organisers what they do with the 'profits' - donate them or use them to create a bigger, better event the next time that they hold it....

Good luck,

R 馃檪

Thanks for the replies but more please , viewed 224 times and only 25 votes. Is this an early indicator of how much interest their is in a w'end cruising? Bloody hope not!

I was thinking Belongil Feilds camp ground Byron Bay but a bit far away for a weekend from Sydney.
It is almost empty in the offseason not many rules and is huge near the beach and about $8 per night and has cabins.
I was hoping Dubfest was on this year as it was good last year but lacked numbers and oompf but still luvdit.
If this was maybe combined with what you want to do,it could be a winner and I'm sure a few hour drive would not matter.
I first met Roy from C.V.W. Pacific at last years Dubfest and stood around with a beer in hand said there is something missing..........Right place, right time of year.....if only you could tear the feild out from Bug Jam and transplant it to Byron for a weekend.
Like you said,it may be small at first.....but they will come.
