wrecker67 ·

there not that bad,but they will last 5 years,no petrol.
ring paul he will tell you how much,,,,

Secoh ·

how far does it get on a charge and does it suck to drive?

57kombi ·

So for reserve, how bloody long is the extension cord??????

Cheers
Dave

68AutoBug ·

This was on ebay last year....
I thought it may have sold.....
Very interesting "engine"....

How many batteries?? what sort of Batteries?
Deep Cycle "expensive" batteries??

One of a Kind for sure....

All Auto electricians should drive an electric car.....

Even Porsche made some in His younger days....

It should have been at the Nationals.....
$5 a drive...

:Lee

wrecker67 ·

the batts that were in it good for a 100km,would spin the wheels off the mark, has no clutch....4 speed.
the only reason selling is he found a better electric car....
just ring him,he will tell you what is all worth..
cheers

karmen ·

what wood it b like with a five speed box ??

with fuel prices today you may as well check these things out.

BiX ·

this is the ine that was sold via ebay last year from brissy i assume?

VWENVY ·

Hats off the this car- and the modifyer!!!!

Someone with an environmental ethic and likely a VW enthusiast has put a lot of effort into converting this fastback and i think its farken great!! Would make an ideal daily driver/comuter - speed just doesnt come into it! The cost of batteries are more reasonable than you think, and would pay for themselves over and over again!!

😉

warb ·

plug that thing in at home, the cops will come knocking, using all that power to charge it, the will think your running a meth lab.... love it.

VWENVY ·

Warb - I think your statement that 'cops will think' is rash and misleading - that rarely happens!

:thumb

warb ·

haha, yes shame on me.. they will 'assume' :P

VWENVY ·

I wonder how much weight could be stripped from this fastback to improve the life of the batteries, and drivability!
I rekon it would be great stripped of all body crap, bumpers etc, matt black paint, a set of alloy cooky cutters, lowered, tinted and looking fat!! The current sad appearance doesnt do it justice...

wrecker67 ·

this thing drives well, seen it take off, spins the wheel no problems, you could pull it out off this fasty and stick the gear in a early beetle, much lighter...give paul a ring about it

Yeah, swap the doors for laters and stuff since they're much lighter. Perspex windows, modern sound deadening (not that you'd need it other than around the wheel arches and floor).

Shame I do over 100K's a day and have two projects on the go, this would be fantastic. Always wanted an electric car:thumb

bus914 ·

Where is the Electric powered fastback now?

MR930 ·

Bugger, I was getting excited til I noticed the dates.

jjwebb123 ·

how interesting.

vlad01 ·

NO!!!! that Sux!

this is better.

Bizarre ·

I have the CD "Sounds of the Beetles" - a whole heap of beetle engines
Need a thumping big stero on full tilt and have the track "1200 going through the gears" playing

bajachris88 ·

Could be used as a portable defribulator as well....

👍

or a novalty size tazer... fun fun.

Yeah great, but might be hard to find a 1/4 mile long extension lead!😂

I thought my computer speakers were broken...until I herd the sound of tyre squeal...

I hate to rain on your parade.

If that electric Type 3 is charged up by plugging it into the mains via a charger, then it is not environmentally sound as IT RUNS ON COAL.

It would have to be recharged by wind or solar to begin to be environmentally sound.

As it is, IT RUNS ON COAL, coal is about the dirtiest way to generate electricity and that SUCKS MAJOR.

Recently one of our state governments (NSW?) has bought a whole lot of so called green cars that plug into the grid to be recharged. They are therefore not green as THEY RUN ON COAL.

Not necessarily correct I have 4.4 KW PV solar on my roof thats green My powerpoints are green. Also anyone can opt for green power on their bills and pay more thats green.
But greenest of all is the fact that the car is still on the road . The how many priuses will still be on the road in 40 years. That means that the resources used in our old air cooled are being well utilized thats green. Mitchell

^ agree 100%

Just to update on the electric typ3 ,unfortunately due to body issues the fasty was scrapped, but all the electrics were resurrected into a mk 1 Golf (lighter & more efficient)Sad news is it is gathering dust in my shed 90% finished havent touched it in 4 yrs! If there is any interest I can post some pics.
Paul

type3lover ·

I'm interested to see some pics for sure!

Is it a 2 or 4 door and where abouts are you?

southspark ·

Its a 2 door,I am in front of my computer screen.(which is located in Tassie)

[...blah blah blah]
Yawn.... I'm so bored of that bullshit argument.

Its wrong for so many reasons.

Agreed coal isn't the longterm solution, and battery technology still has some way to go, but the emissions produced by a petrol internal combustion engine can not be seriously compared to the modern electricity generation process.

wrecker67 ·

the golf looks very good, when i seen it last it was so close to be finished, would be unreal,,,

avwboy ·

The car is still around, it's sitting in someones front yard as it has been for years minus the gear, I'll get a photo on Sunday 🙂

shaihulud ·

Hi bus914.

Firstly. That is not steam it's condensation or artificial clouds.

Secondly. I knew that and also that the chimney emits the pollution.

Thirdly. Are you saying that a coal fired power station is cleaner than a well tuned car engine? I doubt that. Coal is dirty, no matter how well it is burned or how well the emissions are scrubbed.

Fourthly. Please explain how my earlier statements are BS.

Fifthly. I repeat. An electric car that is charged by plugging it into the grid, almost everywhere in Australia, where the electricity is gained from the burning of coal, RUNS ON COAL and that that is not desirable.

bajachris88 ·

IF the government gave every fat person a stationary exercise bike.... We'd help cure the obesity problem and lower health system pressure.

If we put a dynometer in every bike and hook it up to the grid, we would solve our carbon fuel pollutants problem!

Then we can plug our type 3's into our bikes and be on our way...

or as the saying goes... be

'On your bike'....

👍

Just my 2c 👍

A few million Aussies doing 20 mins a day with the bike plugged up to the wall socket could have an interesting effect.
