am pushing really hard at the moment to have the bus ready for the jamboree. just wondering, if i manage to get it roadworthied before the show but dont get the chance to register it, can i legally drive it?
h ·
in qld i think you can go from rwc workshop stright to the transpot dept. for rego.. i think.. its been a while..
DOH!
your down mexico way... hehe
VolksFolks ·
No chance mate, state to state cert cost $60 for 14 days here in tassie, you can only drve from nominated destinations,
Andy

You have to pay for compulsory third party, then you can drive it to get rwc and then to get it regoed, can't drive it just on a rwc.
winerot ·
& the straightest route only, detours are not allowed
baybuscamperkid ·
damn. was worth a shot. just have to win some money so i can aford insurance and rego.
david ·
in vic you can get a permit and drive it to get work done at nominated places OR to sell it ,like at the jamboree and when you DONT sell it you can drive it home i drove a beetle on a vic roads permit to the nationals at sydney to sell it mi then drove it home ,even got pulled up by the police so just get a permit and tell them where you are taking it
winerot ·
would a direct route still apply down there
VolksFolks ·
In Tas you need to get a Tas permit then get a Vic/Nsw permit (where ever you are going, not legal to drive from one state to another, but they call them state to state permits her, probably as we are a island state.

aha.. thats what i was thinking.. now i remember..
when i went to get the twin cab done i ran out of time to get the rego done at the MRD office on that dated day of the 3rd party insurance, so i figured the next day would be fine ...well...
WRONG :o
what a drama..
MRD said that the 3rd party date had to match the day to get regoed,
so back to the original issuing insurance place (many miles from home!) to change the slips date then back to the MRD office to finally get it regoed..
and hows this.. bonus!..
the MRD customer service rep comes out to check engine no. etc n says to me " i haven't seen a kombi like this before (twincab), so you made it like that .. do you have modification papers as well so i can pass the rego back in the office for you " :duh :duh :duh
lol i did..
after an explanation that it is a factory item she beleived me and then no more probs.. thank-you :jesus
an absolute pain in the #ss n a time wasting lesson to learn never to repeat again..
many beers were drunk that night.. here endith the lesson!

Like jnr356 said. You can just buy a permit from VicRoads. Don't mention that you're going to cruise around in it though🙂

Sweet🙂 Can you get them to make the queues shorter at the Oakleigh branch:P Oh yeah, and don't mention all the dodgy stuff we get up to on this forum to your colleagues!

In my opinion it is not worth testing the rules.
A mate of mine drove his 100% stock one owner HZ 2km to his mechanic where he had it booked in for a RWC so he could then drive it directly to Vicroads to get rego.
He got pulled over on his way to the mechanic by a divi van 'just a routine inspection to look at the nice old Holden'
Wham! he got done for no rego. He is a really placid guy and tried to explain he had it booked in at the mechanic not even 500m from where they had him pulled over. 'Sorry son. Rules are rules.' They even made him leave the car there and walk to the mechanic to tow it to the workshop.
Needless to say he waited half an hour and drove it anyway.
No rego or no permit = fine
Here's another one. My boss at work had a faulty E-tag and it did not beep at one of the sections of the CityLink. He did not have that car on that E-tag, so the Camera took a photo. He did not get fined for CityLink, but the computer processed the rego number and found it to be an unpaid rego and he got fined for driving unregistered.
It turned out his wife had forgotten to pay it.

Avoiding the queues is easy I drive an hour to the Seymour country branch and get served immediately 🙂
baybuscamperkid ·
mmm. queues queues queues at the burwood branch, and i think thats the only one even remotely near me.
helbus ·
You could shoot out the back of Chirnside park out to Seymour and get straight in. Nice drive too.
baybuscamperkid ·
how long do you recon it would take?
helbus ·
An hour tops.
Burwood would be half an hour minimum for you, maybe 45mins.
I don't think they would be as likely to have staff with issues out at Seymour either.
Octa ·
queues??? what is that? I take my notch to a VW mechaninc who does e-safety checks, renew the green slip online, and register online at the RTA site, I just write down the receipt and stick the rego sticker on the window. Easy.... 😎
helbus ·
We are in Victoria and the vehicle is unregistered.
Octa ·
:blush err...right... I saw Burwood and automatically thought NSW... sorry. :thumb

That's cool. I see Richmond posted sometimes and think Vic
