who said what? any questions? i've been censored, maybe for the forums good maybe not for yours though... i've appealed to get my post back as i'm quite passionate about freedom of speech and injustices, yet alas i dont want it to be at the cost of our great forum... hopefully someone with more knowledge then me pertaining to the legal issues of talking about VW and how they treat their customers will re-assess my post and fingers crossed, re-post it...

I read your post before it was moved and I was almost compelled to let fly some of what I know about the panel crash repair/ insurance industry and my opinions on it.

All I will say is that my opinions on the industry relationships led me to leave the industry in protest. I will say that I hold a lot of the workers on the floor (panel beaters, spraypainters, assemblers, T/A's, apprentices) in high regard.

There are unfortunatley a lot of things a lot of us don't know and that is because you have to be careful of hot topics.

If you have had a crash recently and want to talk to me please e-mail me.

The defamation laws here trump consumer rights.

The people you need to speak to are:

the ACCC - that sort of behavior in your post contravenes the trade practices act. The ACCC can fine businesses who resort to that sort of behavior.

Your attorney general - they are working on draft defamation legislation at the moment, but they are making it even harder to win defamation suits for the little guy, and removing truth as a defense in states which currently have this test. This has to be stopped. The "public interest" test - which your post falls under, can be a very very very costly test to find out. 馃檨 I'm talking $20-70k just to prove that

a) it is true enough
b) it is in the public interest

There's no short circuit for this in Australian law, so most people just settle out of court and people like yourself who know are effectively silenced.

It sucks big time.

I sold my Turbo Beetle for three reasons:

* My car was a lemon. 21 dealer visits, covering more than 1.5 months in the shop out of a total 24 months ownership makes this true no matter which way anyone tries to twist it.

* The warranty was running out, and as it was a lemon, I knew that it was going to cost an arm and a leg to keep going

* I need a reliable car for my work. I nearly lost my job because of my New Beetle's unreliability and its desire to become first name friends with my local VW service tech.

I've talked before in general terms about the anti-customer behavior of various unnamed dealers, but they are the business in the middle and are not always necessarily to blame. With the exception of Werribee VW who were great, none of the others covered themselves in glory. There were two dealerships in Melbourne who never saw my car, but the rest did - my car was that unreliable and broke down in the strangest places, like Elwood and Ormond.

Why does dealer service policy suck so badly? In my opinion, the real problem is VW Australia's "service" policy, which makes it very difficult for people with a normal job to claim warranty work, as you need to take the car in two-three times for a simple problem which could have been fixed the first time in one shot ... if they had an adequate supply of the parts VW know are going to fail, coupled with adequately trained techs who aim to fix the problem rather than seem to follow a script.

I didn't hear that Ben had sold his New Beetle. 馃檨 Oh well.
