Rummaging around in some hard rubbish tonight I found an old retro looking crosley fridge. It works well and is in very good nick for its age.

Secondly found an old "single shell motor oil s.a.e 30" oil container. It has hand painted lettering and the shell imprint on both sides.. I thinks it's 4 gallon..

Does anyone know anything about these items? Are they rare?

Every service station in Australia probably had 20 or more of these oil containers .....

They must have been trashed when obsolete....

as they are Very Rare Nowadays....

and cost a packet at swap meets.....

Makes You wonder whatever happened to all the:
Shell - Neptune - AMOCO - AMPOL - Golden Fleece -
- BP COR - CALTEX - ESSO - Mobilgas - TOTAL - Castrol -

Lamps - Oil Bottles - Fuel Tins - Signs ..etc etc

They just seem to disappear overnight....

Well....

BP bought Commonwealth Oil Refineries (COR) in the 50's, so the COR brand disappeared. Then we 'merged' with AMOCO a few years back, the AMOCO brand still exists in the US. We also bought Castrol a couple of years ago too, but the branding is so widely known it makes lots of sense to keep it.

TOTAL still exists as part of TFE (TOTAL / FINA / ELF), but has a very small marketing presence in Aus, race fuels only.

CALTEX (TEXACO) bought AMPOL and are now the same company. CALTEX also bought GOLDEN FLEECE in 1981, and gradually phased the name out.

Likewise ESSO MOBIL are all part of the massive EXXON company

I had to google NEPTUNE, but that name was acquired by SHELL in 1952 and dropped in 1959 !!!!

retro fridge aye? hmmmm.... id be holding onto it, while it sucks up alot of power and is probably not very friendly to our planet, any oldskool fridge can fetch a tidy little sum if its in good nick.

is it one of those rounded one-door kelvinator style jobbies, or one of those wood-panelled ones from the 70's?
or is it even older than that??

its a rounded metal thing. I will get a pic when I get it out of the bus, it's heavy!

Has a very funky interior..

I will probably sell both as I have a new project in mind 😉

Although I must say the shell oil can looks great in the bus..
