well guys, the jambouree is sunday, and my car is in the garage with one front beam 1/2 removed, a good one sitting on the floor, fresh air vents not yet connected, and choke missing a spring. between now and 2:30 friday i have to finish removing the current front beam and install the spare, re-attach brakes, master cylinder, booster, hook up the air vents, fix the choke spring, replace the boot on one of the upper balljoints, get a roadworthy and get to seymour to get my rego.
sound like a fun challenge? sounds like a long night for me!
PS:anyone know if i need to wire my towball plug for rwc?
EgeWorks ·
Have fun! Not sure about tow ball thing. If you have time wire it up. If not take off the tow ball and plug for RWC.

if i take off the ball i am left with mount (which is welded to rear bullbar) hopefully the RWC guy (who i know) will let me go.

With that much work what are you doing sitting on teh computer 😉

was just about to start removing all the cables which run through the front end (after removing brakes, shocks etc) when i thought it might be wise to check whether the dodgey brother's who had told me the balljoints needed doing were actually right. so jacked under the lower arm like my mech told me, and low and behold, couldnt get even a mil of movement out of the front end no matter what i did or how i pulled and shook. my analysis? i figure the guys fel the slight bit of play in the front bearing and assumed it was the balljoints as they know nothing about veedubs. either that or they were just trying to milk more money out of me, like the way the told me to replace the front br ake hoses, which also seem perfectly good (no damage at all). so Ive put the better set of disks on, re hooked up the brakes, tightened and refitted all the little bits and crossed my fingers. took it for a test run tonight, everything feels good, the subi engine is a joy, so hopefully my mechanic will feel the same way.
by the way, anyone got an engine lid stay that they could bring to the jambouree for me? i have lost mine somewhere.
in response to andy's question, i was having tea at he time of typing :thumb

keep it up dude i believe in you!

What's in Seymour ?? Not much from what I can see :>
How long will it take me from Seymour to the Show ?
baybuscamperkid ·
buggered if i know what's in seymour, except a vic-roads office :thumb
Brad ·
So do you live near Seymour ? If so what time are you leaving as I wouldn't mind following a local to the show.
That is if my subi bus can keep up with your subi bus :>

think it's different rules different states :o

its all over. :cry
took it to the mech today for a roadworthy, the balljoints were fine (damn dodgy brothers who told me they werent), as a bit of a fluke the vicroads guy turned up to check up on the mechanic the same time as i rolled up with my car, so i had 3 people looking over my car. found 3 defects: clear taillights a no-no (easy enough to fix, had a feeling this would happen); front brake hoses need doing (an easy enough job), but then when we went for a test drive a horrible grating noise began to come from the back of the car, and it seems one of the bearings near the clutch (possibly in the end of the main shaft) has seized, so the engine needs to be pulled to fix it. my lovely mechanic has promised to start on it tomorrow which is great, but there saeems absolutely no chance of having it done in time for my appointment at vicroads, so seems the bus will not me at the show on sunday. Vicroads dont do registrations on saturdays do they?
on the up side i will have all my leftover T-s on sale cheap to try to pay off some of this work :thumb

:cry just got a call from the mechanic this morning, somehow the shaft from the gearbox has UNSCREWED ITSELF, damaged the spline, damaged the diaphram and obliterated the bearing, meaning that after 2 hours with 2 mechanics working, the engine is now out but the clutch is still stuck on the gearbox and the mechanic is now talking about having to remove the gearbox's bellhousing!
EgeWorks ·
That's pretty bad luck! You were so close too. Just think how good it will be when it's all fixed up.
baybuscamperkid ·
gets worse. due to the piece coming loose the diaphram for the clutch is now officially destroyed, and my custom bellhousing is gouged by the chutch:cussing
baybuscamperkid ·
yay, wonderful mechanic saved the diaphram! turns out it was full of tiny little ballbearing shards 😠 one less new part to buy 🙂

oh man, I'm so sorry, keep at it, soon you will know the joys of a suby again.😉
