Or, Nitrous Oxide Systems (But i never heard of a beetle having such)

new old stock, or nitrous oxide system.
new old stock is when its an origional item from years ago. eg: a set of empi chrome eyelids. that have never been fitted to a car before.

Yep, as mentioned above it stands for both...
...NOS when refering to a part means that the part is an original and has NEVER been fitted or modified in any way. It may not be in the original packaging (those cardboard boxes disintergrate over time) but as long as it has never been used then it is NOS.
Many people use this term incorrectly when selling parts. I have seen many obviously second hand parts with 'NOS' written on the price tag. Usually NOS stuff attracts a higher price so I suppose these people offering the stuff that is not NOS are just trying to catch a sucker....
Keep in mind too, that some things that are NOS are not necessarily the best way to go - for example, NOS window rubbers for a '60's vehicle are likely to be deteriorating by now....
Hope this helps (not only to understand the meaning, but also to save you from being ripped off!) 😀

Good on ya ratty 63, thats some priceless advice.

Got to agree with Ratty 63, too many things are called NOS,
the part must NEVER have been fitted to a vehicle,
if it has then it is just a second hand part.
Also as he said fitting some NOS parts can be dangerous like any brake parts, 50 year old rubber seals in slave cylinders would have deteriorated by now and anything else made of rubber.

The only NOS parts I would use would be panels. Even then you need to look for signs of being damaged or having been left outside and rusting.

Oh and NOS aluminium and stainless steel trims too.
Yeah mechanical parts and seals are usually past their shelf life unless packaged in grease paper and sealed well.

That's because lots of people use NOS for Not Original Seller (which means any non-VW stuff, regardless of whether it's new or second-hand).
