WTB - VDO Tacho to suit Type 3 Console

I'm after a VDO tacho in nice clean order suitable for install into the Console of a Late Type 3.

If you're after an original grey faced VDO tacho, you may have some problems. They are as rare as hens teeth and worth a fortune if you can find one. The few I have seen on ebay usually fetch over US$300.

There are a few black ones which are a bit more common and therefore a bit cheaper.

VDO still sells Tacho's of the right size that will fit, but since they are new they don't have the nostalgia/patina of an old tacho. I have the contact details for VDO Australia if you want them.

I've been considering tearing the chrome ring off the clock opening a tacho, changing the colour of the face putting the ring on it and stickign it in the type 3....

Otherwise it's use a modern tacho and mount it a bit more inconspicuosly

I'm not after a grey faced tacho as the late models have a black face. I will try and upload a photo of what I am after as one of the dudes on the forums sold one a month or so back.

Wouldn't suit my car but that would have been a sweet Tacho for an Older model Type 3 or Bug !!

The two pictured are not original the VW only goes to 6000 revs.

I think these were only fitted to Aussie Type 3's in a central console.

Hmm interesting - thats the same tacho I was given with the Console (had a clock in the console and I was given the tacho too). I thought it was the wrong type as I recollect that my '73 had a tacho as per the photo I attached where you could set the redline.
The only thing that sucks is that the front lens on the one I have is pretty crusty - maybe I should look into getting it buffed?
