EOI - 1600 type 3 twinport

Hey folks,

I'm thinking of selling my 1600 twinport engine out of my squareback. The engine runs really well (sat on 70-75mph all the way from sydney to melbourne a few weeks ago).

I have bought a recoed 1776 and will be doing the changeover soon (next few weeks).

The engine runs and sounds great & doesnt blow any smoke. It did use about 1 litre of oil over journey but have been informed this may have been due to fast pace of trip.

Apart from knowing it ran well on its journey, it has plenty of poke and it doesnt blow any smoke I dont know much else about the engine. It most likely will be sold with twin solex's already on car, but minus ancillaries (ie starter motor, dizzy etc) as these will transferred onto new motor. Any test welcome while motor is running in car.

Any interest in complete running engine with carbs minus electrics?

Even suggestions of a fair asking price would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Steve

Just wondering 2 things:

What amount of money do you want for the engine and;
Will it easily fit into a 72 beetle?

I need a new engine for my car, but I have a strange feeling that somewhen in my brain, it is telling me that it wont fit. I can do small modifications if needed, but dont want to ruin a perfectly good type 3.

Any ideas?

Cheers

PS: Im in Hawthorn. Where are you located?

Hi Tnate,

I'm asking for offers for the engine at this stage..not sure what it's worth minus electrics but keep in mind it will have good twin carbs fitted (solex).

As for fitting to a beetle I'm pretty sure it can be done without too much fuss, but someone else might be better qualified to answer the question. I know the engine i just bought is to suit a beetle (but is built from a universal case) and i only have to change the position of the oil dipstick to suit the type 3.

I am located in Hughesdale (near Chaddy) so I'm not very far if you want to come and check out the engine some time.

You might like to post the question on converting a type 3 engine to beetle and see what everyone says.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi, I would be interested but then saw you were frm Melbourne and I am in Brissie! 🙂

yeah that kind of distance can be a problem. maybe i can drive the car there to prove engine is good!

Anyone need a decent type 3 engine, or want for another car?
