The volkswagen noise, is this made by the exhaust system on the car? i mean the distinctive ticking noise, does it come from the engine itself or is it more the way the exhuast is designed?
Thanks Steven

Ticking... adjust your vavles... :P
The dak dak I think is a combination of the boxer configuration and the stock exhaust.
Aftermarket exhausts dont seem to have the same level of dak.
And then theres the fan whine..
I love dub engines..

dak dak noise is what i meant not ticking (im tired)......
hmmm.... just thinking if it would be possible to make my mates subaru powered beetle sound more like.... well a beetle..... Since the conversion has lost the cool cruising sound of the original engine

I think that dak dak is from the pee shooter tail pipes too. I seem to reall that if you use the flared pipes, you dont get the dak dak...
correct me if i'm wrong

what about tappets apparently so ive heard if you have
hydrolics less noise or if you have no gap no noise (but no good)
Chewy ·
Winerot, Hydraulic tappets self adjust so they never make noise..
Too tight you get no noise but you also get burned valves.
winerot ·
thats what i thought something along those lines
but is it tappets thats the main culprit with the dak dak noise
bugger sorry chewy just noticed your first post i stand corrected

If he put a stock style, twin outlet on it it might sound like a beetle.
It might be a bit restrictive for the Subaru tho.

i don't think so, the subarus have their own sound...
helbus ·
There is also beetles that make quite a 'chirrup' sound. I found the Brazilian tailpipes made a chirrup and the German tailpipes I replaced them with made more of a 'dak'
Subaru's seem to have a throaty sound that is all it's own
Newbie ·
ok cool thanks for you responses, sounds like his bug proberly wont dak again dont think he will like restictive tail pipes.....

...so are you still a newbie??? Been around for a while now...
Bummer...dak dak a sweet sound
bajachris88 ·
Well, if ur so desperate, you could always record the beetle sound and blast it out of ur car. he he lol:thumb
(yeah, i know. Stupid joke, but it would work. However, look really odd if ur flooring it down the highway with the sound of an IDLING beetle blasting out)
he he
jenz58 ·
...nothing replaces the dak dak of you're own car...music to the ears :kiss
vern74 ·
Vern doesn't have the chirping but he does dak dak
I love that sound !
Vern is at the "health spa" at the moment for the next 2 weeks since I won't be able to spend any time with him. He has a few "sun spots" to be removed

turbocharged dub with enequal length header has the same distinctive throbby noise of a EJ20T, except with tappety valve sound and the fan sound.

36 hp fans were mesmirizing...put ya to sleep
we always put in 40hp fans to remove the sound ,,,its the number of blades which change the harmonics along with the dak dak.
remove the mufflers in your peashooters and it may increas d d
but you loose the cheirniey soundie
