Virus Alert

Very Urgent!!!!!!!...
PASS THIS ON TO ANYONE YOU HAVE AN E-MAIL ADDRESS FOR.

If you receive an email titled:

"It Takes Guts to Say Jesus"

DO NOT OPEN IT. It will erase everything on your hard drive.
This information was announced yesterday morning from IBM; AOL states that this is a very dangerous virus, much worse than "Melissa," and that there is NO Remedy for it at this time.

Some very sick individual has succeeded in using the reformat function from Norton Utilities causing it to completely erase all documents on
the hard drive.

It has been designed to work with Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

It destroys Macintosh and IBM compatible computers.
This is a new, very malicious virus and not many people know about it.

Pass this warning along to EVERYONE in your address book and please share it with all your online friends ASAP so that this threat may be stopped.

Please practice cautionary measures and tell anyone that may have access to your computer. Forward this warning to everyone that you know that might access the Internet.

Don't panic, this variation of hoax virus has been doing the rounds for years. All it ends up doing is generating alot of email traffic from everyone sending the message on. for example, check the report below from 2002 about the same thing:

isn't it the biggest b1tch to have lil' turds getting jollies by picking on us home computer users (im sure some people would also use computers else, but the majority that is) with viruses.

It gets me pretty fired, as now not even the internet is a safe place. Well, it hasn't been very safe for a while, but still, it sux. blah blah :blah

The internet isn't safe with you out there Chris....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA thats funny... :P destroys macintosh computers :P
sorrowful be the day when some little shit becomes smart enough or persistent enough to write a virus that can run itself as root and destroy a macintosh system.

nice hoax though... how long has that one been going around?

Hell when we "disposed" of our last Macs at work I was standing two floors above the dumpster throwing the bloody things and rarely got the satisifaction of smashing more than the screen.

You guys have to understand that when someone writes a virus, it is their resume.

Once the guy gets caught and jailed for a short period there will be a long line of people offering him jobs.

To write a good virus isnt easy.

Urban Myth dude.

Yes Macs are good in the fact that they are far less succeptible to viruses but Mac users should not become complacent as the are not totally immune. Example:

Macs aren't so much less succeptible to virii but just that people don't bother using them...

Unless you are doing high end graphic, video or audio there is just no use to exclude so much market from yourself.

hmmm... so i really shouldnt bother using this fine laptop for my university studies, seeing as how i dont need to worry about virii or it suddenly crashing on me and all the work i had on it disappearing... i didnt realise it was only good for photoshop.

i dont know about this market mac users are excluding themselves from, seeing as how most good software created for PC has its counterpart for the mac...
one of the most popular PC software suites - microsoft office, has not only ported to the mac, but has completely walked over the PC version in its setup, its style and features.
better yet, the macintosh has software built-in that pc users can only dream about- itunes, iphoto, ical...

just because we cant run those myriad of games that pc users can does not exclude us from the market... it excludes us (partially... most popular games are ported to macintosh) from A PARTICULAR market.

KOM123...i agree that any system can and will have security holes in it, and that OSX has its share (albeit a small share), but the truth of the matter is, there are around 40 virii for the mac, and all of those are for much older systems.
OSX has been around for well over 4 years and there isnt one single virus for it.
you would have to know a hell of a lot about the macintosh/unix system to be able to exploit the miniscule holes in OSX enough to run a virus as root and therefore cause havoc.
if you know that much you have probably got a very cushy job at apple, getting paid heaps, working with creative people and talking about how cool kombis are with steve jobs.

sorry about the rant, but for every one pc user i have commend me or be curious about my using a mac, ive got at least 5 who sit and bitch about how many times their pc crashed and how long it took them to get rid of a virus, and then go on to tell me how stupid macs are and how they would rather die than use one, or how i must be a total idiot to buy a machine that they dont write such and such game for, or that doesnt run this windows program...

i spend enough time fixing my friends and families virus-ridden, spyware infected, registry buggered, corrupted PCs, i dont want to have to waste that much time fixing up my own.

/end rant.
