Is it illegal to remove the front sway bar of a 1970 beetle? It is my understanding that once you lower the car it becomes reduntant. Thus by doing this I will create more ground clearance to legal hieght of 100mm. Does anybody know about this if so please help me I am unsure. Thanks heaps guys and girls you info is invaluable hope you can help and thanks for reading.

Ben Dickens you can either reply, u2u Harryman or contact me by phone 0421854440 during normal hours.

Not illegal... but why? It has nothing to do with ride height...?

Chewy ·

For ground clearence... it hangs down a couple of inches lower than the beam.

Nope - not illegal - but removing it may reduce the amount of hold your front tyres have on the road when cornering... My Brother fitted one to his '65 Splitty (not normally fitted from factory) and it now corners MUCH better.....

you can get swaybars that go over the top of the trailing arms like this one http://www.aircooled.net/new-bin/viewproductdetail.php?keyword2=SSS0002&cartid= which give you more clearance

...wot a fantastic idea....
