I always thought that a Baja was pronounced same as it's spelt ie Baja.... But I saw a program last week that referred to the BAJA race (after which the VW Baja was named) and they pronounced it "BAHA".
So what is it - A VW "Baha" or VW "Baja" ?
Bizarre ·

ps
i say baja... but i know i am wrong

Most people look at you funny when you say BAHA and dont know what your talking about

I know some crazy people call it:
BADGER (like the animal). Since when did a bug resemble a badger? lol
oval TOFU ·
can't blame the yanks of this one - they pronounce everything in their words... like MOM for eg... ugh..
Baldy67 ·
im the same.i pronounce it baja even though its meant to be baha:jesus
Anthiron ·
i say baja. somtimes baha. normally say baja. but yeah i know its supposed to be baha.

Baja is easier to say than baha. the "ha" sound in h takes more effort to say and a wider mouth (more muscles tensing) than ja.
Hence why saying baja is easier than baha.
hence why i prefer it. (baja that is)
Fossil ·
think the Badger is a wilder version of the Baja for racing
Fossil ·
thanks PT3 for the spanish lesson
Chewy ·
I say baja and baha... I think baha is easier to say.
Never heard an off road dub being called a badger.

I always thought that I was the only one that pronounced it as baja, Its good to know that I'm not alone on this one.😀

Do a look on google image search and you will see that when u put in ‘Baha’, no offroad vehicles come up at all (no cars at all actually). But type in ‘Baja’, then WOW!!! U will find heaps.
Baja must be the far more widely and globally used term.
Sandy ·
Chris, they're talking about pronunciation, not spelling.
Hey if you guys know it's wrong to say bar jar why do you?
shaginwagin ·
Its probably like saying "Porsha" instead of "Porsh" you get looked at like your a tool bag :thumb
Baja Wes ·
I say Baha as that's how your supposed to say it. People in "the industry" say Baha.
Baja is how the yobo's say it.
And Badger is how the inbred's say it.
🙂🙂🙂
oh, and it's Mexican. Named after the Baja desert racers where they were born. Which of course is held on the Baja Penninsula.

its just one of those things that get stared and stick.
why do we call later irs irs and early irs swingaxle when theyre both irs.
why do we call bay windows bays when there aint no bay windows on the thing, just a curved screen.
of course there are 1000's more in every field of life.
if you want to change it back you've "just" gotta get it started and get it to stick..

i agree. Its like potato, patarto, tomato tomayto, (not by spelling but by prenounciation)
As long as you know the different terms for baja, then u will be alright.😎
