Back in my day.

The wifes station wagon got attacked the other day by 3 12yr old kids, Dented 2 doors, bonnet, rear panel and smashed the rear window. Because the kids are under age the police can't touch them. Now we have to pay the excess to get her car repaired. We take great care of our cars just so some bored little #%$&% can have some fun. If I had done that at their age my father would have made me work it off and go to their home and apologise.

fetid_swamp ·

that sucks and i feel your pain.

as a kid i remember mucking up, getting caught, getting strapped/seruiously penalised, thinking about mucking up again... and not.

welcome to the the brave new world....

there's been a couple of threads anaylsing the new and improved modern life, its probs and the possible answers inside bad attitude. no solutions have emerged thus far....

......little brats!!!!!! Kids that young doing that damage...the world IS going crazy!!!! Goodness I would never have thought to do anything like that ... but they have learnt they can get away with a lot now days.....

I guess we can't blame it on the parents but something must be lacking at home if this stuff happens.....it's certainly showing a total lack of respect for other peoples property

It certainly went well beyond a childish prank

....having your car off the road is such an inconvenience...plus all the other crap you have to do to get the work done....

Hope it's all fixed up soon and with little hassle

The repairs are under way, it is just a pain in the rear to have to put other projects on hold, not to mention having only one car on the road and the wife and I doing our work in different towns.

The kids parents are responsible for the actions of their children.Get them to pay. I would:cussing

Starbug ·

i agree... get the parents to pay.
and to keep an eye on their 12 year olds for a change.

carisma ·

id go to small claims court and file for the money, cost you about $100 to make a claim and then they have to pay,,,,can claim for wages lost for the time off work to,,

jenz58 ·

....good idea.....you should get compensated for it all....and it might make the parents be a bit more responsible for their brat kids

I have 3 sons and the eldest is just coming up to 16 if any of mine had done something like this I would have put stuff of theirs up for sale to help pay for the damage like their prized bikes, surfboards or playstation or something to teach them a lesson but yes the parents should be responsible for their childrens actions. By the way my boys are no angels believe me.

My opinion is that the kids today do not have anything to basically scare them into doing the right thing, they get a slap on the wrist if they get caught and its obvious that the parents are not doing their job as if they had, the kids wouldnt have done it in the first place.
I remember getting a smack across the back of the head for pinching apples from a neighbours tree by the local copper, I didnt do that again,
If the copper did that today he would be up on assualt charges, and that would be recommended by the do good social workers
Dont get me started on social workers , I had a lot to do with them in my last job in the U.K.

I to think there should be a law that states that you are liable for your childrens actions until they are about 15, This might make some of the parents do their job.

Cheers

I would go after the parents. Get them charged or whatever, they are responsible for those little shites....

decent parents would make an arrangement to pay for the damage the kids have caused u. Either by paying it themselves and making kids pay them back...or making kids payit off somehow.

But if u reported incident it to police and they know the names of the kids, then make claim thru the insurance... u may find u dont pay excess because u've been able to name the perps.

If u are forced to pay it, u have two alternatives...(if u know name of ppl who did it) One is to apply pressure to insruance company to follow thru and chase excess. They ususally do it when they chase for their own money. Or two, chase for excess thru parents thru court.

I would do letter of demand first, you may find they pay straight away, or make arrangements to pay, saving court costs.

bloody oath the parents are partly responsible !!! If they'd taught their kids any values and the respect of other people's property it would have never happened !!!

I was driving to my parents place a little while back with my kids in the back seat and a little boy on the side of the road throws a rock at my car !!! I am in a residential street so I was going pretty slowly and I saw him do it, and I was in such shock that I slammed my brakes on, reversed up pretty quickly to him and chased him, grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and told him that if I caught him again not only would I kick him up the arse but I'd take him home and get his dad to do it.

I was going to say if it were my kids but I can't, because a) I'd know what my kids were up to and b) they know they'd cop it if they did something like that.

We are all getting too damn precious and I tell ya, if my kids were out doing something that they knew was wrong, and could damage / hurt another, I'd expect a responsible adult to tell them so, and if necessary, to tell us so we could rectify.

There is a big decency size hole in the insurance system. A shift worker returned to find his car totalled in Brisse, I think security cameras caught it and because of the “ I know not what I do” AKA --- Underage --- hole, he paid the excess and ended up on today tonight (the or another time filling report kinda show), and from the way it was shaping up he was going to never see his money again:cussing. The delinquents parents couldn’t have really given a stuff. The sad thing is that the kids rased with no morality will in turn raise worse. Vicious cycle due to mainly laziness and parents in some cases being afraid to discipline them, due to either fear of retributionry violence, or litigation. 😠

Scotty mate sorry to tell you this but I think you have probably lost any hopes of getting the excess back :birthday, the more you chase the more you’ll lose doing it.

Its Unfair …but hey the harder you work for something the more you’ll love it (i.e. money), just don’t start rocking to and fro in the corner clutching the money cards mumbling gibberish, about homicidal rampage.

But if you have your own bunch of ‘ ‘ UNDERAGE’’ delinquents around ….😉
