I all I find myself in a situation where both my mum and my wifes mum need a new form of cheep transport to get around. As they can't get parts for their old jap cars.
I sugested get a VW as I have no real problems and my car would be 15 years their's seinior.
Supprisingly they both were very worm to the idea of having a bug. So now Im on the lookout for suitable cars but know I should stick to newer models as they seem to be more plentiful over here. But I know nothing about suppers or L bugs.
Were these fully auto or semi auto like older ones?
Are the heaters any beter than older ones? (the old loves don't like the cold)
Are their any parts avaliability problems for these cars?
Anything else i should lookout for with these cars?

if the transmisson goes then it would be very costly to repair. ask killakornkob or lee (forgotten his handle) they both have semi autos.

What about a type 3? Fully auto and the transmissions are just about bulletproof.

Go the Type 3...............Plenty of room for the shopping, etc that we women seem to put in the car! Plenty of room for the bowls ladies and the bowls bags as well!

Hmmmm only if the ladies in the back are without legs. Type 3's are quieter and more comfortable and do have more room, but rear leg room is still restricted though it probably not a problem. However, a $4-6K Hyundai would be a better proposition to most people who dont have the VW virus.
Strut front ends in the strut beetles are bloody $$$ to repair.

Hey, I often sit in the back of the fastie and have heaps of leg room......mind you I am only 5'2"
