After a very long run, the sweet little 1835 in the DC has shit itself.. I have a replacement 1600 to go straight in but I'm wondering what I do with the 1835..I will probably run the 1600 until I'm ready to do a complete resto and EJ20 transplant.. So this broken 1835 is probably not going to get repaired..
It has twin webers, balanced crank, mild cam etc.. The engine was as strong as a bull.. Didn't blow smoke and was a sweet sounding unit..

Any ideas?..

Maybe sell off the bits that are still good? What exactly do you think is wrong with it?

What's wrong with the 1835?

The block is cracked.. The motor is such a great performer that I am loath to strip it.. I guess someone that wants to get a machined block could rebuild it..

J&SBlue ·

Who built the motor originally ?

VDUBXTC ·

I have a similar prob. Mine cracked behind the flywheel.
I have been told this is a common prob for the 1835cc.
I to had the lot balanced, heads ported brnd new pistons, barrels, rods, rings. It ran strong too until it went on a trip to sydney and spat it

Brad ·

just put it in a new case and keep it going 😎

Oh brad, you disappoint me, I thought you were gonna cry SUBIE!!!😀

Sten, come to the sube side of the force. Only through the power of the sube side can you truly save the twincab's life. BRU HAH HA HA!!! (evil laugh) :vader

Power Tune was the name of the company (Adrian Corveys) 308 Victoria rd Gladesville.. Can't find his number

I've got a spare 1600 TP going in today.. Probably go the EJ20 fairly soon though.. At the moment it's got to keep working until the new T5 DC arrives in June/July.. Then the T2 is getting a well earned (temporary) retirement

I don't feel like doing the rebuild on the 1835, although, If Brad says its just a matter of swapping the case.. It may not be a bad option

Brad ·

if you are going to do it use a new case though they are much better than the old AS ones.

Brad ·

you can weld up the old one, or simply swap the internals over. You do need to machine the case to allow the 92's to fit in though.
