I was just thinking yesterday how awesome would it be if Germany starting making the classic bug all over again, same shape and quality. Everything exactly the same just better technology! I know they make them in Mexico but I don't think I would trust it...but just think about how awesome would it be! I don't think they would have any trouble selling them. Mmm, just dreaming 馃檪 The average bug back in the day cost around $2,500 didn't it? How much would that be translated into these days?

They stopped making them in Mexico in 2003. Classic bugs aren't made anywhere now (well they are made in some peoples garages and back yards, from second hand bits, but I don't think that's what you meant)

So why don't VW make them again? Money. If you pay them enough they'll do it! Can you afford to pay them to set up a new production line and buy enough units for them to turn a profit?

Heard this before but only as a rumour..... Does anyone have proof of this, a weblink or something?

The cost of a bug in the 60's or 70's roughly works out to be the same as the cost of a new bug today.

Only in Australia because at that time we cared about or workers and had BIG tarrifs. Witout the taxes they would have been heaps cheaper.

The old Beetle is a noisy, low-tech, expensive to manufacture, unsafe enviromental disaster area. Really.

But we love them, even with all there imperfections!

Do we love them the same way that we love our Atari 64? or Ms Pacman games? or our large brick sized mobile phones?

I am sorry to say that it wouldn't be worth Volkswagen's while to produce brand new "classic" shape bugs as the only people to buy them would be people like us who buy them for the nostaglia factor. and you would find that with all the saftey standards and emissions laws they would be VERY expensive.

I kinda like that they're not made anymore, because it means we are luckier to own them and they'll just get more classic and gain in value anyways.

I don't know if the New Beetle met VW's expectations in the sales +profit area, same as the New Mini. They have a certain novelty factor with all the new technology while being similar to the old car, but they just don't have as much charm as the 'lil oldies, even though they look cute as!

I'm still waiting for them to release a new car, with big 50s wings and fins!! Now THAT would be awesome!! But so would the price.... 馃榾

I wouldn't say that the new ones don't have any charm. I drive a newie and she is charming as !

In fact she is so charming that she has the boys falling all over her
