anyone had defective whitewall flaps before?

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/39795/anyone-had-defective-whitewall-flaps-before

VWFOOL ·

i bought a set of whitewal flaps recently and ever since i put it on one wasnt sitting right. the tire place said it might settle down witha bit of driving. it has gotten worse and been refitted a few times, we worked out its not perfectly roound, sorta egg shaped at one end, so about a 1/4 sticks out from the rim, the rest fits under snuggly.

i rang the place i bought them off they said u cant replace them coz they hav been fitted to a car, but i wouldnt hav known they were defective if i hadnt fitted them, right?

just wondering if anyone else had troubles with whitewall flaps before. id even just pay for one, dont want to hav to buy another 4 again!

its hard to get all 4 to stay seated
every now and then one might
start to bulge out.
just deflate your tyre completley and push the raised part of the flap back into the tyre bead,no need to brake the tyre bead or anything should push back in without to much trouble.
after a while it should stay.
i have been told by tyre places that one of my flaps is faulty only to to fit it myself and have no probs.
good luck

oh well this one defintly wasnt going back in, thats why i took it back to the tire place, i watched as they tried to fit it over and over again, defintly out of shape.

I second Kombibob's opinion. You need to do it yourself and be patient. The tyre shops use heavy duty pump to inflate the tyre so it all happens too quickly for the flap to sit right. Try yourself and don't pump the tyre up all at once. Stop 2 or 3 times and "massage" the flap into place to ensure it is sitting right

I had the same problem, couldnt get one of them in. My mate has a tyre shop and we worked out it must have been the rim and tyre combo, because another white wall came out as well. So in the end to fit it we scuffed up the rim and used some bead selant and its fine now.

The trick is to do it slowley and dont use any lubricant.

I am talking about the flaps here.

Oh err missus.

No seriously I have had this trouble on 2 sets of flaps, there is always one that wont seat properly, all you do is take your time, deflate the tyre a bit so you can massage the flap in and inflate very slowley , you might have to use a rubber hammer, and DO NOT use any lubricant or sealer.

Also depends on the quality/ brand of the insert too.

The ones I have right now I got from Johns Hot Rod and Custom in Melbourne(hard to get apparently) and they are great, where as on the Beetle I had Atlas, and the ones I have now are far superior. Thicker, wider, better.

thanks for the advice, but this one is well and truelly unuseable, it sticks way out and is out of shape, u can fit a finger between it and the rim.

what sort are they? i had to get a 2nd set and have 3 spare. mine are the omega ones from classic veedub

i see them flapping out all the time, a mate had to take his off his oval because they didnt sit properly, cost him trophies at a show. ive heard its a case of paying peanuts and getting monkeys.

don't leave the shop until they replace it.
