A big thanks goes to crazy george for fitting a new engine bay seal in my 68/69 beetle. without dropping the engine out. for those of you out there who doubt it can be done, i saw it being done with my own two eyes. using a screwdriver and spoon. my engine lid is cooler after a long drive now, and not endanger of overheating.
