In Sydney it's chuck out time. Endless crap or is it! I have posted threads similar as others have on what treasures can be found. Here's another one of those threads .
It's getting colder in Sydney so time for a new heater and getting sick of carting my work vac in and out the van so a new vac for the house. All money i could be spending on the dubs but needed all the same!
Anyway whilst crusing around today keeping an eagle eye out for old eskys , thrown out sprintstars and the like something caught my eye. Yes sorry i AM one of those people that has no self dignity and happy to look for any retro nik naks , in amongst broken toys and thrown out fitness equipment. Someone called me a scab the other day , suppose they are right really but folk really do throw out some gems. I pulled over and had a look. Guess what , a vac! Not just any vac a very cool and very retro Hoover in brilliant condition. It also had all the hoover attatchments which must be a plus. Thinking it's broke i grabbed it anyway as it looked cool and i could possibly fix it. Took it home , gave it a good clean and decided to have a look at it. Plugged it in , no joy , crap!! Took the thing apart and not only was there 5 new vac bags inside the vac itself , the motor has been replaced and is new and there was a wire loose. Sorted wire and hey presto , it sucks like a good one. Now have what must be the coolest vac , doesnt even have wheels , slides on a saucer like bottom! Love to know what year it is! Hoover "Constalation" , 70's maybe?
So chuffed with my find i decide to go back down the garage just a my neighbour is putting out , yes you guessed it , an oil heater. Just over a year old and under warranty. A year ago he moved into his unit and the legs off one end went missing. He tried using it , burnt a hole in the carpet , missis got the shits and told him to get rid! LOL muppet! Hearing my tale he offered it to me , for nothing , cost him $190! New legs for it are being fashioned this evening out of the bin of brackets i have , no biggie , so again something for nothing!
Reckon this has saved me $200 for sure which at a time when i broke saving is bloody great!

lucky you mate! lol
I know my mate and I a couple years back took a few T.V.s and pulled them apart to try to make a tazer. lol, the imagination I had when I was in grade 9. But now, doing physics in year 12, I now know how to do it.
But anyways, yeah, there are some great finds out there, incredible what people throw away. I reckon its when the 2nd hand shops really go bazurk, and try to find free merchandise, cause there is alot of good stuff.
Oh, and one thing too. You would be pretty surprised how stong the screen is on a television. Try whacking a hammer on the front of it, and it won't seem to break. Oh, and when using a soldering iron, if you accidentally pick it up by the wrong end, the burns aren't that bad. lol
Just a few things I noticed after taking those t.v.s during spring cleaning and trying to make a tazer.

Hi
Great find I have look at all the cleanups trying tp spot anything for a VW, a friend found really good heart shapes and lots of Oval parts. I found some really clean steel HQ Monaro wheels once, gave them to friend who was restoring a Kingswood. I look at all wheels that are chucked out, just in case and Im still to find a good Esky.

i hereby declare dannyboy has got the coolest find of the century! 😀

That hoover is the best!! I think the best find anyone in my family has gotten out of a council cleanup is a good condition high chair. It's great at my parents house cause now we have 2 high chairs which is needed when they have 5 grandchildren under the age of 5.
I love looking thru other peoples junk.

ive already got my eye on one on ebay chris :P
dannyboy can keep his, a roadside find like that is infinitely more precious than getting one from ebay or an antiques shop.
