Does anyone else think these are getting out of control?
Some of these things are 300, 400, 500 pixels high!
Look at the screen cap below.
Names and text blacked out and signatures covered.
Seriously a full screen and there's one line of text and the rest is signatures...
It's not just banners either. There are signatures getting around that have 10+ lines of text.
Avatar sizes are limited how about a max height of say 100 pixels for sigs?

I can see what you mean. One person on here likes to put a large picture of some part of his car under every post. Nice for him, but it's not related to the post generally, so it's just a distraction.

Well, I don't wanna be causing any anger or pissing anyone off. So plz, if anyone has a problem with my signature size, just tell me and I will see what i can do.
But I know that there are some that are worse than mine in here.
I just measured mine. My signature is 162 pixels from (- - - - -) line to (_____________) line. NOTE: 162 is note the picture size, therefore the pic height is smaller than 162.

It was limited to 150 pixles a while back .. I will check it out and limit it again ...

150 pixels is a good size. Some banners are good and if they have a link that is useful even better.
Some are just plain clutter.

I have been thinking this for a while. They got rid of these on a Uk site. (Vzi) allowed only text. made a difference.
Probably not going to be popular to say it but if you save the thread, which I do quite often, and looked at what is saved it is mainly the pictures in the sign that add up.
my internet is always slow so any savings are worth while
just my 2 cents worth

i don't mind images, like for businesses and stuff like that, as long as it doesn't take forever to load. a limit of 125-150pixels sounds good.

because of the colour but being to the left
its not distracting like being under each post

Personally I think having text only is boring.
Limiting the sig pics to a decent height should have been put back again.
From one extreme to the other. Find a decent middle ground and everyones happy.
Nothing wrong with pics in the sig, as long as they dont take up half a page!

i am ok with text only, there is one user who has 5 or 6 gif (moving images) that takes ages to load, but i am on a 100 post per page! thattle slow it down, blah blah blah

Probably text at the bottom because HTML has been turned off.
I am on dialup and never used pics in the sig so it is ok with me.

hmm im not really partial however i think a limit on size would have been a bit better.
mine wasnt very big. about 90 pixels high or there abouts and it linked to my website.
i dont mind things like that as the picture can catch your eye and u can have a geeze at the users personal site. i dont really think it was great having 2 or 3 big pictures and 10 lines of text underneath.

This may go against the flow a bit, but I like sigs, as in pics, not text. If you have text everywhere, it is even harder to interpret what is sigs and what is comments..
Like everything on this site, people need to use common sense, and somewhere along the line, people have forgotten that. If we limit it to 'normal' banner size, i.e. similar size to our sponsors logo's or our AVD ones in the top left of the main page..
Obviously at some stage, life became a competition..

i think it looks better without the sigs, especially when conversations between people only had a few words to each post... would take forever to scroll to read the whole conversation becoz of the sigs.

Why not have a poll, Me personally I think its a lot easier on the eye without the sigs.
You dont get them on other notorious sites why have them here.
If you want to show a pic put one up of your vehicle.

Granted, you can show off a picture of your car using the avatar function and you can also add a link in your sig to websites.

I am happy for my moderator avatar to go - would like to keep my personal one though.
I guess it is just me but I don't see why text is needed in the majority of sigs anyway - for those who thought the banners broke up the text....I guess you wouldn't have to worry about breaking up the text if people didn't have sigs at all. Don't kill me for saying it, I have never had one so may miss the point altogether. :jesus
I just feel that avatars allow an expression of individuality (within reason of not being offensive) and is restricted to size....and therefore feel sigs aren't really that necessary. But as I said, I may just not get it. I'm on cable anyway so am not fussed about load up time. Just my 2c.

Cool - is it possible to put under the title on the left "Moderator" so people still know who they are in case they need to U2U or report something?
For example under my dasresto title have moderator as well. Again not sure if this is possible, just thought it might help.

I don't really mind if there is images allowed in sigs or not, but saying that "they take up too much space" or "it's so cluttered" is not a valid argument.
I can fill my sig up with random garbage text and it will be far worse than a 60 pixel high image.
It might be wiser in my opinion to limit the size of your signature, both file size and screen size.
On another note, I find it quite interesting that members of the forum who have a business advertise said business in their sigs and avatars. There is an advertiment banner at the top of every page on the forum. Isn't that where advertisment belongs?
I'm not trying to disrespect anyone or cause problems as there is enough of them already. I guess you just can't please all the people all the time.

I just think its unfair that some people (eg volksfolks) have nice siglines but I dont, and I dont have the graphics software or knowledge to be able to have one 🙂

i reckon that since avatars are not meant to be bigger than 100pixels square, and they big enough, sig photos don't need to be more than 100pixels high. that's more than enough room to get your message across.
