Just seen a few semaphores on ebay (not interested in buying them, hopefully mine are OK) and there appears to be two types, a yellow and an orange, and orange more often than not mention SWF. Wha tis it?

Its the make. SWF made semaphores, wiper motors and relays etc for VW's.

There are two types, SWF & SHO. Both just different suppliers. If you want to be really picky about it I think that certain models are meant to have SWF & others SHO but it doesn't really matter does it??

I've seen a post somewhere on a forum explaining what should be on what but I cant remember where. One of the brands was for most of the common models from memory....

Edit...
Found it on thesamba by accident/fluke, will try and post link

I might have missed it up above, but are all VW sema's the same? I mean, not brand-wise, but fit and function?

I will be looking for some for my 60 Bug in a few months and since I don't know much about them I don't want to buy a set that don't fit. I won't be fussy as to original make type, etc, just will be looking for a working set to fit. Thanks!

nope there are two main different types. single screw and double screw. they refer to the screws that hold the lens in. These are the common oval to early big window types.

Also there are Karmann kabriolet ones (which are entirely different) then there are the ribbed ones which came on split window (or really early ones?)
