Took the Splitty to Turtle Beach on the weekend and after seeing a Hilux drive in about 10m onto the beach and get bogged and then pushed out backwards, I decided to try it in the Splitty, aired down to 15psi and in I went (track about 300m loop), no worries almost there, slowed down for wife to take pic, oops! bogged!, no probs, aired down to 10psi and drove out. Great fun!!!
Cheers, Ian.

No NRMA up here just LCRS (LocalCostalottaRescueService), and I hope I never have to subscribe to it.
Not much rain now, Dry Season, about 30deg every day.
Hilux driver took off in shame.
11CAB, I thought you'd comment on this, will take it on to Little Bondi while Rhett is here and have a crack at the dune at the end of the beach.
Cheers, Ian.
MUD BASHING ANYONE ?? ·
Good onya dude good to see somone else sticking it up the 4wds
pete wood ·
Dude I love your car, there doesn't seem to be anywhere you won't take it. All the other splitty owners seem to get all precious about theirs, but you just seem to find new ways of taking it offroad.
Keep up the good work, 😎
BTW, is it still a 1600?
winerot ·
good on you ian 40 year old van sticking it to the new
i did some of that today as well up & down a mountain
then followed a new mercedes 4wd on 30k's of dirt road
must of had the shits & tried to leave me in his dust but
i stuck to his dust all the way, would have love to hear
what he had to say every time he looked in rear view mirror:thumb

Go the splitty! Wait till i show all the pusslux drivers at work😀
jenz58 ·
....goodness I can't stop thinking about a splitty and doing Oz in it..... so you're back from the island you were ferrying to??...maybe I missed something...
Great shots....more please... luv your type of adventure!!! 😎
What are you doing at the moent...besides driving on pristine beaches in the sun up FAR North???
bajachris88 ·
Luv it, outa all the ways to do the splits, going offroad along a beach while showing a hilux how its done is the best and most rewarding way of all.
Dam if I know cause i won't experience that in a long time, but i can imagin it.
Noice split by the way.
jenz58 ·
...it's what dreams are made of hey??!!
Mmmmm nice dreams tonight...... hear the waves lapping....see the splittie.....dreammmmmm
bajachris88 ·
Oh, and don't forget the breaker girls in that dream,
and perhaps a nude beach?
Oh, sweet dreams....
Desert Bug ·
Hi Jenz, yeah keeping the dream alive, hey!
Here's a map of where I am, it's a bit fuzzy but you can get the picture. The Splitty came by barge around the top from Darwin to Gove.
Cheers, Ian.
Desert Bug ·
Close up.
jenz58 ·
WOW...I know where Gove is....just remember the barge bit and wondered...how was the trip on the barge??? How Long?? Where did you stop on the way...can you get off??? You would have needed permits up that way... to enter tribal lands?
So many questions??? You are so lucky....fantastic...but you also know what you are doing....
I'd research the area for people sailing a couple of years ago...so got to know it but not for real...and they did get there and beyond....
It is such a sweet splittie and travelled so far ..... it's such a feel good trip :thumb
Desert Bug ·
Jenz, we were'nt on the barge (no passengers) just cargo, we flew over on Qantas and landed 12ks from home. We live at Yirrkala which an Aboriginal Community and yeah these days you got to have a permit to do anything up here now.
Cheers, Ian.
jenz58 ·
...so the kombi barged it you flew?? OK 🙂
Damn I would have wanted to barge it too lol
How is Yirrkala? I remember you were going there to work...
Desert Bug ·
Hi Jenz,
Yirrkala is a Community of approx 1000 Aboriginals and 120 plus non Aboriginals. It is a very unique place to live and work and both Kaye and I are enjoying catching up with a lot of friends we knew in the 80s when we lived here for 6 years.
Cheers, Ian.
jenz58 ·
