This is the new version of the forum software. I was hoping to test it for a bit longer before promoting it into production, but losing all the files for our forum didn't help.
It has many new features.
* U2U interface is simpler and no longer pops up
* Member Control Panel is much better
- You can choose from a bunch of preset Avatars
- You can change your own custom title now
* Lots of small tweaks - you can now sort the posts to display in reverse order - think of DasDubber's 48 page monster - now you can see the latest posts on page 1 instead of page n. Just choose "Descending" order in the thread
* Multiple attachments per post (click "add attachment" on the left). Up to three attachments per post. the 50 kb limit is still in place. The forum is development, so it will not warn you if any of them do not make the limit, so if it doesn't post the image, make it less than 50 kb.
* More smilies and post icons.
* Fewer bugs and a bit faster

its not a huge issue.
i dont see really how screen resolution affects it. im running 1280 * 1024 and had no problems with the old forum style or this one.

WE lost everything between Sunday morning around 2 am and 4.30 pm. Someone "helped" by pressing install when I was trying to upgrade the forum and deleted our database. The backup held by our hoster is the same age.

I am using Opera 8.01 on XP. I checked my settings, there isnt anywhere in preferences where I can change the text justification. And I am using Page style not mine. Still am getting Center justification. There are other UltimaBB forums like http://www.xmbxtreme.com/viewthread.php?tid=2703&page=2#pid15491 which is justified to center for me as well. Both these forums display with the left justification in Mozilla though?

Also it isnt remembering my Login, I have tried it several times and my browser has stored my login and pass as well as teh cookie but the site keeps on asking for it every time I load up the page (even if I have it already logged in, in another tab)

good work with the site mate, one small point can we lose the hilighting when you mouse over a thread, I just find it distracting as I don't read the forum with my mouse but my eyes then move the mouse. If that makes sense.
If I am alone on this then i will put up with it obviously :-)

I'm seeing some odd behavior with themes. I set mine to green, but when I've been viewing certain threads, it seems to show the red theme, which is a bit odd as isn't the default the blue one? It has only happened twice, and seems to be happening fairly consistently with this thread http://www.aussieveedubbers.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=41045.
Also there is one feature that i'm not all that keen on and that's the whole cell behind a thread title acting like a link. Would it be possible to make this an option? I don't know why it bugs me so much. Anyway I guess that would be a matter of taste, I just thought I'd let you know.

That's okay, I'll set those themes back to default now. There was two forums I wanted to show people the other themes.

I am using Opera and I have the same probelm too... Centre justification of text gives me the shits! also the page shadow is justified to the centre of the screen too... ARGH gives me the shits. Anyway andrew is having a look at it.
If you still use IE you are stuck in the 90s 😉 Mozilla or Opera.

It wasnt a stupid idea by anyone, its a compatibility thing with IE. Firefox and Netscape are left justified, as well as opera... by the sound of it.
Just relax ppl. I'm sure it will be fixed in due course. Some people also work for a living.

firefox isnt targeted by all those browzer hijackers etc so u dont get rerouted to some search site u didnt want to go to all the time etc.. u get less crappy pop ups all the time because all the annoying companys design stuff for IE not firefox or opera etc. u can open multiple windows inside the 1 main window and use tabs to flick between. it has a built in search function. and i find it simpler to use.......and it has nothing to do with bill gates which is also a plus.
seriously if u used it for a while i bet u wouldnt go back to IE.

I never get sent to any wierd search sites, I dont have trouble with pop ups, and I can flick through the different windows by the taskbar. Its really not much worth waiting for. UNLESS! you want to be able to customise your browser and add different skins. Its pretty good in the way it imports all your IE and Netscape favourites, history etc but to me it looks exactly like netscape 7 clone (which I have and which also left justifies, but is crap with gmail as is firefox)
Done it, now the pc is real sloooow, and some pages are massive, where i have to scroll to the right, how do i stop this! spose i am new to this!!

New layout looks good, just a couple of little things. At least the site is up and running again, centre align is annoying and so is the contrast between the blue backround and the black text, bring back the plain white. Otherwise the site is looking good, keep up the good work, we really appreciate it.... DONT WE!

Should be fixed for everyone.
Tested in IE 6.0 SP2, Opera 8 - both of which had the problems. No problems with Safari and Firefox on Mac.

Centered text is fixed. I've turned back on BBCode. HTML will never return - the code is actually now incapable of displaying HTML even if the option is on (which it is not).

When you edit a post, the "[edited by..]" thing goes on the same line and is preceded by "nn".... like this see
blah blah blah
My guess that in the php code it should have been a "/n" newline that was typoed to "nn"

Also, after I subscribe to a thread, I get the message I am being taken back to my subscriptions, but I dont get anything other tha a blank white page.
And I dont think that auto subscribing to threads I reply to is working.

Using what operating system? On my win2K, using 4 random websites, Firefoxes 4 tabs are using twice as much memory as IE's 4 windows

may we also have the users location displayed below the avatar box like b4. this is good as some peoples voices/opinions are reflected by which state they are from. ie RTA requirements between nsw and qld for example.

Also for some reason it wouldnt let me attach a 29kB image, but also when you reply to a u2u there is a checkbox saying reply and delete u2u. I check the box but the u2u isnt deleted.
Apart from all that, I tend to agree with Andrew, this is heaps better than phpBB 😉

OPK I just had a u2u that wouldn't send...I tried highlighting and copying txt so that I didn't have to retype for the next u2u....
Also can't highlight txt in u2u ..hit enter and it's deleted...have to delete letter by letter......anyone else have this problem?? 🤪

Ok so i was wrong about memory usage in the task manager window 🙂 Im running XP, and Opera uses about 36000K, IE uses about 35000K. Memory use does not change with number of pages you have loaded in either program. What I probably should have said was I think IE uses more resources (not just memory). From my own experiences IE would be a lot laggier and slower when you have about 8 pages open or so compared to opera. This would be more pronounced on slower computers as well.

example=your only just been promoted to wolfsburg elder thats why you are on 3% with 97% to go for next title
the green scale is a guess the second number is how many post you looked at & the first is how many you replied too=5391 post looked at 1001 post replied too
the red scale is duh i forgot
p.s. the fourth scale which is invisible explains my dribbling

im having heaps of trouble with the forum since upgrade.
while the cetred text thing is fixed, I am having trouble with attached images. A lot of the time, I just cant see them. From reading others posts, I think the pics ARE indeed being posted. when I go to edit the post it says the file has been downloaded heaps of times.
I've got the problem in IE and firefox and netscape.
It seems so random, sometimes attachment is there, sometimes not.
And sometimes links arent showing as links, image urls arent showing as images... its just wierd.

Since the loading of this software, I find that the topic activity is simply too small a list and the topics vanish off the list very quicly. This makes it a bit hard to keep track of topics that i have not added as favourites.
Secondly, whenever I reply to a post and click the email reply checkbox, I am never replied to via email now.

there are 3 icons on the top left of the screen when you open a message which allow for notification...about the topics per page...i dunno...must be something somewhere...nn[ Edited on 21-7-2005 by Mick H ]

Yer, I reckon that the amount of topics retained in the "topic activity" would have to be settable.
The older software kept a huge list of old topics. Im not suggesting that many but it would be very handy to have the last weeks topics rather than the current day or so.
The forum still refuses to email me of a watched topic reply tho and this i find really irritating.
